Or Dinh H'Toan, a Ba Na ethnic, a 12th grade student at Mang Yang Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center, had to work hard to go to school at a very early age due to family circumstances.
Her parents divorced many years ago, and H'Toan and her siblings live with their mother. After school, H'Toan works as a hired hand on the farm, growing corn, making noodles, and tending coffee trees to earn money to cover living expenses and school expenses.
Life was so difficult that H'Toan once intended to drop out of school after finishing 9th grade, but then she decided to go back to school to have a stable job to take care of her future and family.
H'Toan said that most of the girls her age in the village have gotten married, had children, and devoted their lives to farming. She doesn't want that. She wants to go to school to find a better life for herself.
Journalist Nguyen Khac Cuong - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper - spoke at the ceremony.
Hearing the stories of the students, journalist Nguyen Khac Cuong - deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper - said that each student has a different situation but they all have in common the will to overcome adversity and the spirit of learning.
Many students after school sell lottery tickets, pick coffee beans, collect scrap metal, and wash dishes for hire. Some students come from difficult circumstances, their parents are sick or have had accidents, they go to school and earn a living, and soon become the breadwinners of their families. In such difficult conditions, they still strive to excel in their studies, which is something to be admired.
According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Cuong, the scholarship is a gift to encourage and motivate students on their journey to overcome difficulties. Their stories of overcoming difficulties have also inspired and spread positive values to many other students.
Spiritual value from the scholarship
Launched in 1995, the "For the Future of Vietnam" scholarship has reached most provinces and cities across the country, awarding tens of thousands of scholarships to students with difficult circumstances but strong will and determination to rise up.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Hieu - Deputy Secretary of Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union - visited and awarded scholarships to students.
From 2013 to present, the scholarship fund "For the Future of Vietnam" with sponsorship from Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company has awarded nearly 5,000 scholarships, totaling nearly 11 billion VND to high school students in 13 provinces and cities across the country.
In 2024, the "For the Future of Vietnam" scholarship fund will continue to award 200 scholarships to students who have overcome difficulties and studied well in 5 provinces of Thanh Hoa, Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Kien Giang and An Giang.

Poor students overcoming difficulties in Gia Lai province at the scholarship awarding program
Mr. Hieu said that Gia Lai province still has many disadvantaged students, and there are still students dropping out of school. This is a big concern for the education sector, the Youth Union, the Young Pioneers, and schools.
Therefore, in recent times, Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union has coordinated with units and funds, including Tuoi Tre newspaper - Muc Tim publication, to build an ecosystem to raise children and support students to continue going to school.
Mr. Hieu believes that the scholarships of the program have great spiritual value, providing timely encouragement to students on their journey of pursuing knowledge.
