Hanoi: A man over 30 years old went to a cosmetic tattoo facility to have beads implanted into his penis to increase its size, causing his genitals to swell, become ulcerated, and become necrotic.
On September 23, a doctor from the Department of Andrology and Gender Medicine, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, said the cause of the accident was the patient's body reacting to a foreign object after the beads were attached.
The patient had the ulcerated skin area debrided by the doctor, foreign objects removed, and antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy drugs given. After two weeks, the wounds were completely healed.
Doctors warn that foreign materials such as ceramic balls, glass, silicone rings when implanted or grafted into the penis have the risk of causing inflammation, edema, and even necrosis. Performing the procedure at a cosmetic facility without medical expertise has a high risk of leading to infection. Many cases of complications include embolism, pneumonia, and multiple organ failure.
Doctors recommend not to arbitrarily implant beads into the genitals or do it in a place without expertise, but should see a male specialist for safe and effective intervention.
