Each generation has its own advantages and disadvantages. Collaborating with Gen Z is a popular way to work together, which can increase competitiveness in the company.
The 'genes' and Gen Z cooperate
Managing the sales staff, all of whom are handsome and beautiful Gen Z, Mr. Tran Hieu (31 years old, Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City) said that he clearly stated the working goals with them from the beginning, not vaguely, especially the processes, to avoid headaches when dealing with problems. He understood that they often had difficulty with high pressure, so whenever he encountered any mistakes, he immediately pointed them out with ways to improve them.
Mr. Hieu said, many of you have high egos but "a wild horse is a good horse", a person with a strong personality will bring high efficiency when put in a framework. The way Mr. Hieu chose is to provoke you to prove your own ability to have a way to orient. If anyone fails, they will have to accept changing their working style and attitude.
"You need a professional environment, not too restrictive. I often have coffee or milk tea sessions to "chill" a bit to listen to you guys confide, so they are more open, and their working spirit is also more enthusiastic" - Mr. Hieu boasted.
As the owner of a studio in District 3 (HCMC), Mr. Nguyen Minh Cuong (36 years old) affirmed that his shop would have difficulty competing without the support of his friends in the past time.
The shop currently has 14 Gen Z students who are both studying and working. Before that, he had shelved their applications because he thought they were too young and was also tired of working with Gen Z students, because "he saw people complaining about them online, but because there was a shortage of people, he took a risk and hired them to try."
Not showing up on time, working half-heartedly, assigning work that is not in line with their expertise, then sitting around playing with their phones... are the "tribulations" that Mr. Cuong has encountered. "Many times I also thought about firing more than half of my employees, but then I thought about them being the same age as my younger siblings, still learning the job, so I just had to be patient a little bit" - Mr. Cuong said.
The two bosses mentioned above often talked about eating and drinking with this group of friends because "food is the only way to practice morality". The important thing is that during those meetings, they would discuss and learn more about each friend's wishes to arrange suitable work. And one of the people that Mr. Cuong remembers the most is Trong Cong (21 years old).
This friend once intended to leave and never come back, because he felt he had learned nothing, and several times even lectured his boss about photography knowledge even though he himself was not familiar with using a mechanical camera. But Mr. Cuong listened to everything, because what Cong said was useful, and the new shooting angle he learned online. His friends also guided him to create a page for better marketing, thanks to which the shop became more competitive.
Make friends with Gen Z, why not?

Ms. Que Chau (30 years old, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), an office worker, said she would pay attention to the attitudes of Gen Z interns. If they behave well, she would accept guidance, otherwise she would politely refuse. Knowing that they might be shy, she took the initiative to talk, but if they were distant, she would limit contact.
"Some people only know their direct supervisor when they enter the company, greet this person and treat the others as if they are invisible, that's not good" - Ms. Chau commented.
Working closely with many young people of Gen Z, Mr. Duc Truong (KOL TikTok manager) commented that they are cute, young, and enthusiastic, and that hanging out with them often makes you feel younger. He believes that people of other generations should not create age barriers, because doing so will only isolate themselves.
"Just think positively that Gen Z is dynamic, enthusiastic and especially creative, so working with them will be much easier" - Mr. Truong expressed.
Master Le Anh Tu, lecturer of the Faculty of Public Relations and Communications at Van Lang University, said that outside of work, the older generation can completely be friends with Gen Z. Through much contact, Mr. Tu realized that Vietnamese and foreign Gen Z are quite similar.
Anh Tu said: "You guys approach many new trends, with a high degree of globalization. As long as businesses and managers are more open-minded and have a global mindset, they will find that working with domestic Gen Z will almost be able to cooperate with international Gen Z."
An open and transparent mindset from management is essential to reconcile and help Gen Z love the company culture more.
According to Master Tu, we should listen to Gen Z more because some people like to balance life and work, while others prioritize work. Managers should develop each person according to their personality and strengths, put them into the right team, and sometimes should not assign too much work because it will be difficult to be effective.
"Seniors should give advice so that young people can understand the problem, but don't be too harsh," said Mr. Tu.
Be humble and listen, you will go far.
Continuing the feedback after the articles, a reader named Nguyen said that many Gen Zers are now afraid of going to work, coming late and leaving early. They say they are forced but cannot say no, and don't know how to make them more interested in work.
