Early season grapefruit flowers cost up to half a million VND/kg, attracting customers in Hanoi
In recent days, grapefruit flowers have begun to be sold on the streets of Hanoi. Although they are a rural flower, according to Tien Phong, grapefruit flowers have become an expensive commodity, even more expensive than imported flowers.
According to sellers, among the types of grapefruit flowers sold on the market, Dien grapefruit flowers are the most expensive, from 500,000 VND/kg. Because of this price, Dien grapefruit flowers sell less well than sour grapefruit flowers, so few people import them to sell.
Pomelo flowers cost an average of 250,000-350,000 VND/kg, depending on the type, and if you meet a "big" customer, you can be "screamed" up to 450,000-500,000 VND/kg. Pomelo flowers are often bought to worship at pagodas, burn incense, make tea, make perfume, put in vases for fragrance or wash hair.
Traders 'dump' peach and kumquat trees after Tet, selling them at cheap prices as if giving them away
Normally every year, according to VTC News, after New Year's Eve, ornamental plant traders will find every way to sell off their goods to recover capital and take a break for Tet. But this year, even though the Giap Thin Tet holiday has passed, the Tet ornamental plant market is still quite bustling.
In Hanoi, traders are still selling their remaining ornamental plants to save capital. However, peach branches and kumquat trees, which used to be very expensive, are now priced many times lower.
"To sell out quickly, I agreed to lower the price to 1/3 compared to before Tet. Currently, large peach branches that used to cost about 700,000-800,000 VND are now only 200,000-300,000 VND/branch. Branches that cost more than 1 million VND are also reduced to 500,000 VND," said a trader.
'Making money' from peach tree revival service after Tet
After Tet, peach garden owners in Nhat Tan in Tay Ho district, Hanoi are busy bringing thousands of peach trees back to their gardens to take care of and prepare for the next crop. According to Tien Phong, demand is high, many gardeners are overloaded and have to turn away customers.
Depending on the value of the peach tree and the shape of each tree, the garden owner offers different care prices. The higher the value of the peach tree and the more elaborate the shape, the more expensive the care costs. Accordingly, the total care cost from the time of replanting until Tet ranges from 500,000 VND to 2 million VND/tree.
But because taking care of peach trees requires meticulousness, carefulness and quite a lot of work, many gardeners only dare to accept limited quantities.
Son La specialties 'dye red' Hanoi market, marbles at super cheap prices
No longer are the expensive prices of up to a million VND/kg when Son La specialty fruit “dyes red” Hanoi market. Housewives compete to close orders for specialty strawberries, because they are at super cheap prices.
Before Tet, Son La strawberries were commonly priced from 300,000-500,000 VND/kg depending on size. Grade A strawberries cost up to 600,000-750,000 VND/kg, and special strawberries cost nearly 1 million VND/kg.
Now, this Son La specialty is super cheap. Specifically, the price of special strawberries has dropped to 200,000-250,000 VND/kg; large strawberries cost 150,000 VND/kg; medium strawberries cost 100,000 VND/kg; cherry strawberries cost 80,000 VND/kg, and marbles cost 50,000 VND/kg. (See more)
Fresh areca nuts are extremely expensive, 30 thousand VND/fruit on the 15th day of the first lunar month.
“Fresh areca nuts have never been as expensive and difficult to buy as this year. Big areca nuts are 30,000 VND, small areca nuts are 25,000 VND. This bunch of areca nuts is 4 million VND.”
That is what Ms. Hanh, a fresh areca nut seller on Hang Be Street (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi) shared on Nguoi Dua Tin.
According to Ms. Hanh, since the Kitchen Gods festival until now, the price of fresh areca nuts has doubled compared to normal days. Normally, the price is only 5,000 VND/fruit, but near Tet, the price is up to 10-15 thousand VND/fruit. By the 15th of January, large fresh areca nuts cost up to 30 thousand VND/fruit.
The reason why fresh areca nuts are expensive is because this year there is a lot of frost, making it difficult for the areca nuts to bear fruit, not to mention that last year there were 2 Februarys, so the areca trees flowered and bore fruit early. Up to now, there are very few bunches of areca nuts with big, beautiful fruits, so the price has been pushed up.

Purchasing power of meat and eggs is weak.
After the long Tet holiday, people tend to eat frugally, so meat and eggs are unsold.
According to the Lao Dong Newspaper, in Ho Chi Minh City, in recent days, many carts have been selling poultry eggs at very low prices, only 15,000-20,000 VND/dozen. Markets and supermarkets are also selling eggs at much cheaper prices than before Tet.
Not only are poultry eggs sluggish, pork consumption is also quite slow. Currently, the price of live pigs has increased compared to before Tet but still cannot exceed 60,000 VND/kg.
Regarding chicken meat, Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Vice President of the Southeast Poultry Association, commented that the consumption situation is very bad because it falls into the vegetarian month (lunar January), partly because workers have not yet returned to work fully. This causes the price of industrial chicken at the farm to remain low, ranging from 26,000-27,000 VND/kg, while the cost of raising chicken is up to 30,000-33,000 VND/kg, meaning that farmers are losing 4,000-5,000 VND/kg.
Parking price chaos
The situation of collecting parking fees in Hanoi, which is already quite chaotic, becomes even more chaotic during holidays like the recent Lunar New Year.
According to regulations, cars parked at the parking lot will be charged 25,000 VND/time (under 60 minutes) and given a ticket. But according to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, at the Tran Quoc Pagoda parking lot (Thanh Nien Street, Yen Phu Ward, Tay Ho District), people who park their cars are charged up to 50,000 VND, which is double the regulated price, and in many cases they are not given a ticket.
The situation of "overcharging" was seen at many car and motorbike parking lots at popular destinations on the first day of the new year of Giap Thin 2024... People coming here have to pay parking fees double or triple the regulated price.
