Tips for choosing strawberries
Scent: Good strawberries will have a distinctive aroma. On the contrary, you should immediately skip those that only have a faint aroma because they may have been sprayed with a lot of chemicals when grown.
Color: Quality strawberries should be bright red and full of juice. Dark red ones should be examined more carefully as they may have been mixed with poor quality ones. Finally, avoid buying ones with white and green spots as they are usually unripe and of poor quality.
You should choose to buy fruits that still have the stem and leaves intact.
Shape and size: Avoid buying berries that are too plump and too large because they are likely to be full of water. Also, look for unusual signs on the berries. If there are black spots, it means they are starting to spoil and rot.
Leaf stalks: You should buy fruits that still have their leaf stalks and calyxes intact. If the leaf stalks are dry or yellow, you should not buy them because they have likely been on the shelf for several days.
Seeds: According to folk experience, the farther apart the seeds are on the strawberry skin, the sweeter they are.
How to make strawberry syrup at home
Method 1
If you make strawberry syrup this way, you will need to prepare: 400g strawberries, 200g sugar, 200–250ml water.
Making
After buying, wash the strawberries, then use a knife to score around the stem and remove the stem from the fruit. Cut the strawberries into small pieces, put them in a pot. Add enough water to cover (about 200-250ml of water).
Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and continue to simmer for about 20 minutes. Occasionally skim off the top layer of foam. After 20 minutes, the strawberries will no longer retain their original color. The strawberry juice will turn pink or red. At this point, turn off the heat and filter the strawberry juice through a sieve to separate the fruit pulp. During the filtering process, do not squeeze the strawberries too hard to get the juice because this will cause the syrup to become lumpy and dark in color.

After filtering, add sugar to the strawberry juice, stir well and gently to dissolve the sugar. Heat the strawberry juice solution with sugar over low heat until the sugar dissolves completely and reaches the desired consistency. Skim off the foam that floats to the top. Turn off the heat and let cool. Then pour into a glass jar with a lid and store in the refrigerator.
Method 2
To make this strawberry syrup, you need to prepare: 250g strawberries, 250g white sugar, 250ml red grape vinegar.
Making
Wash the strawberries, remove the stems, and cut them into quarters. Place them in a bowl, sprinkle with sugar, and mix well. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the strawberries release their juice. This process can take anywhere from 5–6 hours to several days.
After the strawberries release their juice, strain them through a sieve and collect the juice. If the sugar has not completely dissolved, you can pour the sugar into the bowl of strawberry juice.
Pour the red grape vinegar into the strawberry juice, stir well and put it in a glass jar for storage. Keep it in the refrigerator, check it again in a few days to make sure the sugar has dissolved. Leave it for about a week and you will have a delicious strawberry syrup.
