The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that Ho Tan Tai's surgery was successful this morning, January 14. The Binh Duong club player underwent surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The Vietnamese team doctor will support Tan Tai during his recovery. The defender will be out of action for 6 to 8 months. This means he will definitely not be able to participate in the first two matches of the Vietnamese team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Ho Tan Tai underwent surgery on the morning of January 14.
Next March, the Vietnamese team will face Laos. The second match will take place in June, with coach Kim Sang-sik and his players facing Malaysia. In addition to Ho Tan Tai, the Vietnamese team will also be without Nguyen Xuan Son - a player who broke his leg in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final and underwent surgery upon returning home.
"Although I was a bit disappointed because the injury was more serious than initially diagnosed, everything is fine!", Tan Tai wrote on social media after the surgery.
Ho Tan Tai was injured in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 semi-final against Singapore. At the end of the second half, this player was in pain after controlling the ball in the penalty area. Ho Tan Tai's landing was not favorable, causing damage to his knee.
After the match ended, Ho Tan Tai was unable to move on his own, had to wear a leg brace and had to be carried to the car by his teammates. Pham Tuan Hai and Do Duy Manh continuously encouraged his teammates. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced that this player only suffered a contusion of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and did not require surgery.
However, according to the examination results upon returning to Vietnam after the second leg of the final, Ho Tan Tai's injury was more serious than initially diagnosed. The doctor ordered Tan Tai to undergo surgery.
