Lost in the "prairie"
After the winding roads, Phu Ninh Lake in Tam Lanh Commune appears in sight. Perhaps what makes this small village on the shore of Phu Ninh Lake so memorable for visitors is that it creates a sense of peace and suddenly makes you feel small when lost in the "grassland" on the shore of the lake. There, looking in all four directions, the eye can only see the endless green carpets of grass, forest, water and sky...
Ms. Le Thi Kieu Long (in An My village), owner of Co Long restaurant, regrets: “Coming to Tam Lanh this season is a bit disappointing. Last summer, it was bustling with visitors coming to visit and have fun on the grasslands watching the sunset behind the mountains. In about a month, the whole lakeside area floating in the flood season will also look very poetic.”
However, the scenery here still reminds many people of a watercolor painting. Clear water gurgling from the mountain top cuts across the small hamlet, each house's garden is luxuriant with fruit trees. From coconut, orange, grapefruit, jackfruit, dragon fruit... mixed with areca and Indian laurel branches. Occasionally in front of the yard, there are terraced fields stretching out as if lost somewhere in the mountains and forests of the Northwest.
According to Ms. Long, since the beginning of the year, when developing community tourism here, this area has started to become more bustling. Many visitors from Da Nang, Quang Ngai... also come to visit Tam Lanh; occasionally there are groups of young people renting tents to stay overnight, making campfires, kayaking on the lake...
Awakening community tourism
The area adjacent to Phu Ninh Lake in Phuoc Bac village and An My village is considered to possess a poetic natural landscape environment and diverse ecosystem.
According to local authorities, from February to September (lunar calendar), the water level in the lake gradually dries up, creating winding alluvial plains connecting two hamlets (Ong Cuc Nham hamlet and Ba Dinh hamlet). The lakeside during this time is an ideal place to develop community tourism activities.
Mr. Nguyen Van Su - Chairman of Tam Lanh Commune People's Committee said that to do community tourism, the most important thing is to change people's awareness and thinking.
The main purpose of developing community tourism is also to promote local economic development, create income and jobs for local residents, thereby creating a foundation for preserving, exploiting and promoting sustainable values of natural potential, historical and cultural values, protecting the environment to build authentic forms of tourism with local characteristics.
“Recently, the locality has organized for people to learn about the experience of developing community tourism at some destinations in Hoi An City. The authorities have also disseminated the orientation of developing community tourism in Tam Lanh to 56 related households.
Survey and initially support 9 households with gardens larger than 1,000m2 to renovate the landscape and fruit gardens so that people can access skills and methods of tourism as well as create more attraction for the destination" - Mr. Su said.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam, with its location adjacent to the Phu Ninh Lake basin and surrounded by mountain ranges and possessing a diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna, in the short term, Tam Lanh can develop outdoor activities such as: fishing, kayaking, hiking and exploring, camping... These are types of tourism suitable for the trend of green tourism, tourism associated with indigenous resources, thereby creating a new highlight for tourism in the south of the province.
The Tam Lanh community tourism development plan has been proposed by the Phu Ninh District People's Committee since 2023. To make this place an impressive destination with many types of services is still a long way ahead. But now, a Tam Lanh on the Phu Ninh Lake with its rustic beauty still welcomes visitors at any time...
The area adjacent to Phu Ninh Lake in Phuoc Bac village and An My village, Tam Lanh commune is about 25km southwest of Tam Ky city. According to the Tam Lanh community tourism development plan, the authorities will invest in tourism infrastructure, train human resources, paint murals on house walls, equip boats to transport visitors on the lake; build a display point to introduce OCOP products, tourism gifts... according to reality with a budget for the 2023 - 2025 period of more than 5.6 billion VND.
