In the 2023 AFC U17 Championship, teams can play a maximum of six matches, meaning they can reach the semi-finals at least. Vietnam will have an advantage in their opening match against India before facing two stronger opponents: Japan, champions in 1994, 2006, 2018, and Uzbekistan, champions in 2012 and runners-up in 2010.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan considers each upcoming match a test and hopes the team will complete the first three tests well. "Hopefully we will do well in the next tests to successfully complete this task," Mr. Tuan said at a press conference this afternoon, June 16, one day before the opening match against India at Thammasat Stadium, Bangkok.

The coach of Vietnam U17 respects his opponents and hopes for a large crowd. "The more spectators there are, the more comfortable I feel because the team will play better," said coach Hoang Anh Tuan. "Of course, it will be difficult for young players to control their psychology, but I understand and believe in my players."

In the October 2022 qualifiers, Vietnam played at home and won Group F, beating Taiwan 4-0, Nepal 5-0 and Thailand 3-0. Meanwhile, India finished second in Group D, losing only to group winners Saudi Arabia, while also beating Kuwait, Myanmar and the Maldives.

The AFC U17 Championship has been held 18 times, with Japan being the most successful – winning three times in 1994, 2006 and 2018. Including this tournament, Vietnam has only participated eight times, with the best result being fourth place in 2000 by the generation of Van Quyet, Nhu Thuat... India has participated nine times, with the best result being reaching the quarter-finals in 2002 and 2018.

The 2023 AFC U-17 Championship will be held in Thailand from June 15 to July 2, with 16 teams divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The four teams that advance to the semi-finals will also qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in Peru in October.
