Coach Troussier: U23 Vietnam can score 3-4 more goals

Coach Philippe Troussier believes that if the U23 Vietnam players were more frugal, the team could have scored 3 to 4 more goals against U23 Guam.

Can score 3-4 more goals U23 Vietnam had a more favorable start when defeating U23 Guam 6-0 in the opening match of the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers. The three points helped coach Troussier and his team lead Group C. Speaking after the match, coach Troussier said: "The whole team is determined to keep their spirit in the match. We tried to win as we had practiced. Today the team persevered to come up with the most appropriate handling. I am sure there will be criticism because the whole team could have scored more goals. With the number of opportunities created, we could have had 3-4 more goals." Mr. Troussier also analyzed the match carefully: "As a coach, I always want to help the team win. After 10 minutes, I discovered a lack of balance in the way the team operated, especially on the right wing, so I signaled Ho Van Cuong to warm up. But I also noticed that the people on the field were trying very hard, trying to find a way to exploit the weaknesses on both wings of U23 Guam. They did better in the second half."

Regarding the next opponent, U23 Yemen, Mr. Troussier said: "I will observe and evaluate further. I know they won 3-0 in the first match. The upcoming match will be pivotal. The winning team will take the ticket to continue. I will make a few small adjustments for U23 Vietnam". Coach Troussier added about the selection of personnel at the team level: "No player is sure to have a place in U23 Vietnam as well as the national team. All are selected based on performance. Today, the choices on the field are the most suitable. But it does not guarantee that it will be repeated in the future. I always want to nurture and supplement personnel for the team. There will be many players called up to help them get acquainted with tactics and philosophy, and at the same time motivate them. I will maintain this continuously to bring competition at the team level". U23 Vietnam is the leading team in the region . Meanwhile,   coach   Dominic Gadia of U23 Guam admitted that his team could not cause difficulties for U23 Vietnam. "We played better in the first half. We conceded many goals in the second half. But this is the first match for the players. They are young players and still need more time. After the first half, U23 Guam could not cause difficulties for Vietnam. We will try for the next matches," coach Dominic Gadia shared.

"The difference in weather in Vietnam is not much. Guam is hotter and more humid. The weather in Vietnam is not too bad," added Mr. Dominic Gadia. The coach of U23 Guam also pointed out the two most dangerous players on the U23 Vietnam side. He said: "The players who caused the most danger for my team were Le Van Do and Vo Minh Trong. I think these are the players who played an important role in the U23 Vietnam team's play in the first half. We prepared as best we could. I tried to instruct the players to focus on the match. If they enter the match without following the strategy, the result of losing is obvious. U23 Vietnam is the top team in the region, so this is a useful lesson for us."
