VFF announced that Ho Tan Tai and Bui Tien Dung will join the Vietnam national team to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup. These are two players added after the case of Pham Van Luan (Hanoi Police Club).
Ho Tan Tai plays as a right-back. He has been constantly mentioned recently when he was ignored by coach Philippe Troussier in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup and in the initial list of players preparing for the 2023 Asian Cup.
This season, Ho Tan Tai is the captain of the Hanoi Police Club. He has achieved stable performance when playing 8 matches, scoring 2 goals. However, the player from Binh Dinh has to compete fiercely with Truong Tien Anh, Pham Xuan Manh, Ho Van Cuong and Vu Van Thanh to win the trust of Coach Troussier.

Meanwhile, Bui Tien Dung continues to be called up after the November call-up. He will strengthen his defensive options after Nguyen Thanh Chung left the team due to a knee injury.

According to the Vietnam Football Federation, Coach Troussier will likely select some of the best players from the Vietnam U23 team (who have been training since December 28) to increase the number of players on the team to about 40, thereby ensuring both the division of forces for internal competition and creating competitiveness.
Before leaving for Qatar on January 5, the Vietnamese team will reduce the list to 30 players. The team will play a friendly match with Kyrgyzstan on January 9. This is considered a rehearsal match for the Vietnamese team. During the training period in Qatar, Mr. Troussier eliminated 4 more players to finalize the list of 26 players.
The Vietnamese team will face Japan (January 14), Indonesia (January 19) and Iraq (January 23). The 2023 Asian Cup consists of 6 groups. The top 2 teams in each group and the 4 best third-placed teams will advance to the round of 16.
