" Facing the Vietnamese team is a big match for the players and the whole team. We know it will be difficult but the team wants to do something. We want to play modern football, not just relying on defense and limiting goals conceded, " said Michael Weiss, head coach of the Philippine team.
The Philippines is the first opponent of the Vietnamese team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Coach Philippe Troussier and his team will face this opponent on away ground. The Philippines team is rated lower but they have always been a difficult challenge for the Vietnamese team even during the peak period under coach Park Hang Seo.

Coach Michael Weiss is expected to announce a list of 26 players before narrowing it down to 23. The home team will begin training on November 12 in the capital Manila. The German coach believes these players will create a surprise in the upcoming match against Vietnam.
" I can put many players on the list and dream about something. However, those who are here in Manila will shoulder a big responsibility. I will prepare a great party for the Filipino fans," Mr. Weiss determined.
Both matches of the Philippines will be played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. This stadium uses artificial turf, which will be a challenge for the visiting teams. The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is also calling on fans to come to the stadium to cheer and motivate the team of coach Michael Weiss.
" Fans have always played a vital role behind the success of the team. The Azkals (the nickname of the Philippine football team) embark on another historic World Cup qualifying campaign. Our goal is to make the players feel the support of the fans. Let us rally together and fill the Rizal Memorial Stadium ," said PPF President Mariano Araneta.
PPF General Secretary Mikhail Torre expects: " We want to end a great year. The women's players did well in New Zealand and Australia, and now it's the men's turn ."
The match between the Philippines and Vietnam will take place at 6:00 p.m. on November 16.
