Reunion after 20 years
After a 2-0 victory over Lee Man in the opening match of AFC Champions League 2, Nam Dinh FC will return to their home stadium Thien Truong to face Bangkok United in the second round, taking place tomorrow night (October 2). Against the current runner-up Thailand, coach Vu Hong Viet aims to take all 3 points to continue his rise in the Asian arena.
"I was teammates with Bangkok United's head coach (Totchtawan Spiran) in HAGL in 2004. He is an attacking player and a very good passer. As a coach, he can pass on to his students what he has accumulated and I will do the same.
Coach Vu Hong Viet attended the press conference before the match.
Nam Dinh FC won 2-0 in the opening match of AFC Champions League 2
Tomorrow's match promises to be exciting and the two teams will give the audience a beautiful match. I want to win against Totchtawan as the head coach of Nam Dinh Club," Coach Vu Hong Viet affirmed.
Bangkok United FC is one of the most traditional teams in Thailand. Last season, the team from the Thai capital finished second only to Buriram United in the championship race. In the opening match, Bangkok United beat Tampines Rovers (Singapore) 4-2 to temporarily take the top spot. Therefore, if they want to usurp their opponent's throne, Nam Dinh FC must take all 3 points.
"All Nam Dinh players are ready for tomorrow's match. We have analyzed our opponents and understand that this is a strong team. In their squad, there are Thai players and 3 quality foreign players in the attack line. Those are factors that can cause difficulties for us."
Nam Dinh Club won only 4 points after 3 matches in V-League 2024 - 2025. On the attack line, the team from Thanh Nam has only scored 1 goal, in which striker Nguyen Xuan Son (top scorer last season) is "silent".
Coach Totchtawan of Bangkok United Club
Coach Vu Hong Viet affirmed: "When playing in the V-League and having to face opponents who sit deep, Nguyen Xuan Son has no space. But he scored in the C2 Asian Cup. In tomorrow's match, Bangkok can play offensively and that is an opportunity for Son to deploy his strengths."
On the side of the opponent Bangkok United, coach Totchtawan emphasized: "I used to play for HAGL, but when I returned to Vietnam this time, I felt more excited than ever. This is our second match in the AFC Champions League 2. We got 3 points against the Singapore team and this match is the same, we aim to win against the host Nam Dinh".
