(Dan Tri) - More than 5 months after leaving the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung decided to return to lead Huynh Nhu and her teammates to prepare for the 2025 SEA Games taking place in Thailand.
Previously, Coach Mai Duc Chung's contract with VFF ended on December 31, 2023. The two sides parted ways without renewing the contract. Coach Mai Duc Chung wants to rest because of his age.
After parting ways with Mr. Mai Duc Chung, VFF did not appoint a new head coach for the Vietnamese women's team, because in 2024 there will be almost only one international tournament, the Southeast Asian women's football tournament (ASEAN Women's Championship) scheduled to take place in October.

Recently, VFF has also been looking for someone to replace Mr. Mai Duc Chung to lead the Vietnam national team. The most promising candidate is Japanese coach Akira Ijiri (who led the U18 and U20 Vietnamese women's teams) and is expected to be in VFF's plan.
However, for various reasons, the head coach position of the Vietnamese women's team has remained vacant for the past 5 months.
Rumors of coach Mai Duc Chung returning to lead the Vietnamese women's team have been circulating for about a week now. Most recently, Mr. Chung was present at the VFF headquarters, at the launching ceremony of the new head coach of the U23 team and the Vietnamese national team, Mr. Kim Sang Sik. This makes the information about coach Mai Duc Chung's return even more plausible.
In the latest developments, it is known that VFF and coach Mai Duc Chung had a meeting, and the two sides reached an agreement to sign a contract. Coach Mai Duc Chung will lead the Vietnamese women's team until the end of 2025 to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games with the goal of defending the gold medal.
In the history of Vietnamese women's football, coach Mai Duc Chung is the most successful person when he helped the Vietnamese girls win 6 gold medals, 4th place at Asiad 2014, attend World Cup 2023...
"This year the team will not participate in any international tournaments. However, the team will still have a training session abroad in July or August, after which the players will return to compete in domestic tournaments, as well as the HCMC team will participate in the Asian Women's C1 tournament.
This is the premise for us to have good preparation for important goals that will take place in 2025, including the Southeast Asian Championship, SEA Games 25, Asian Cup Women's qualifiers... My coaching staff and I are highly focused to complete the task well," Coach Mai Duc Chung shared./.
