Coach Bozidar Bandovic rejected his colleague Nguyen Duc Thang's opinion that Hanoi FC played a destructive football game, and said that the team played beautiful attacking football and deserved to win 4-2 against Binh Dinh.

"I don't comment on my colleague's opinion because I respect him. But everyone watching can see that Hanoi FC played better and deserved to win," Coach Bandovic replied at the post-match press conference when asked about Coach Duc Thang's comments.

At Hang Day Stadium on the evening of July 17, Hanoi FC pushed forward and attacked right after the opening match. In the first half, they missed a series of chances when De Sousa Caion hit the post, Pham Tuan Hai and Tran Van Kien shot over the bar when facing goalkeeper Dang Van Lam in the penalty area. The home team then conceded a goal in the 44th minute when the defender did not mark Rafaelson, allowing this player to comfortably head the ball after a corner kick.

In the second half, Hanoi FC continued to dominate the game, holding the ball 72% of the time, and making 12 shots compared to their opponents' 5. The difference compared to the first half of the match was that they took advantage of their opportunities better, successfully turning the game around with a hat-trick from Caion and a goal from Van Vi.

After the match, Binh Dinh coach Nguyen Duc Thang was not convinced. He said that Hanoi FC players had many "careless plays, dangerous fouls, like taking down". At Hang Day Stadium, the home team had 22 fouls, twice as many as their opponents.

"Of course, in a match, sometimes players can be too eager to tackle the ball. That's football. But I think when tackling the ball, my players have no intention of destroying their opponents," coach Bandovic added about his colleague's opinion.

Hanoi FC takes revenge on Binh Dinh in V-League 2023

Main events of the match Hanoi FC 4-2 Binh Dinh.

The victory at Hang Day Stadium helped Hanoi FC pay off the debt of losing 1-3 to Binh Dinh in the first phase. It also helped the capital team relieve the pressure after two consecutive losses to SLNA in the V-League and Viettel in the National Cup. With three points, Hanoi also caught up with Hanoi Police. Coach Bandovic's team currently has 25 points after 14 matches, only behind in goal difference, so they are in second place, behind their city rivals, in the V-League.

"I have to congratulate and show respect to the players. We wanted to play beautiful football, play with high intensity, shoot a lot and we did that," coach Bandovic added about the victory in the latest match of the first round of the championship race of the second phase of V-League 2023.

According to the Montenegrin coach, Hanoi FC completely controlled the first half, from possession to opportunities, and the goal conceded was just unfortunate, after a set piece. "In the middle of the match, we had discussions, and when we returned to the field, the players were allowed to play according to their personalities. At Hanoi FC, we are always under pressure to play well, get good results and create conditions for young players. This match the team did those things," Mr. Bandovic added.

Hanoi will play their next match on July 22, away to Ha Tinh, who just drew with Cong An Ha Noi. In that match, the defending champions will welcome back Nguyen Van Quyet - the team captain after being suspended for eight matches for colliding with the referee.

"Van Quyet is about to return. He is an important player, with him we will play better," said coach Bandovic.

Along with the V-League championship race, Hanoi FC also has to prepare to play in the AFC Champions League. According to coach Bandovic, the intensity of the AFC Champions League is very high, requiring players to run from start to finish, and not having much time to think. Therefore, Hanoi FC must increase the intensity of training, improve physical condition, to avoid cramps at the end of the match. "Everyone can see that our pace in the last match made it difficult for the opponent to follow. The players were still running continuously in the last 20 minutes. However, that is still not enough compared to my requirements, the team still has to improve," the Montenegrin coach added.
