Mr. Le Hong Thai, Principal of Phan Van Tri Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) wrote an open letter refusing to receive flowers to congratulate Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.
In the letter, Mr. Thai shared that every year on Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, the school receives a lot of congratulatory flowers. However, these flowers are only used for a few days and then thrown away, which is a waste.

The principal expressed that this November, the main activities of the school are the Illustrated Book Storytelling Contest and Phan Van Tri Challenge 2024. The school hopes to receive support and sharing from sponsors, businesses, and organizations to bring practical gifts, directly support the students in training their mind - body - beauty, and encourage them to confidently participate in useful playgrounds. The school hopes to have more notebooks, milk, and symbolic medals to reward students participating in these activities.
For the past two years, Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) has not accepted flowers or gifts to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20. Instead, the school has called on businesses, philanthropists, and parents to donate health insurance cards for students.
This idea came from the previous school year, when the school collected health insurance for students, it realized that many students were in difficult circumstances, some were orphans or had unemployed parents. Paying for health insurance was also a big problem for their families.

Speaking with Tien Phong, Mr. Dinh Phu Cuong, Principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School, said that this year the school did not issue an open letter but had announced early that it would not accept flowers or gifts on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.
Realizing the humanitarian significance from the echoes of the previous school year, many benefactors, businesses, and parents proactively contacted the school, offering to donate health insurance to students on this occasion.
"We have received more than 70 health insurance policies, worth about 60 million VND. These are practical gifts to help students overcome difficulties and excel in their studies," said Mr. Cuong.
Last school year, Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School requested 89 health insurance cards but received support for 200 cards. The value of each health insurance card is 680,400 VND, valid for 12 months of 2024. With the remaining cards, the school saved them and took care of these children on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024.
