A clip recording a parent-teacher conference and the "collective oath" of parents has caused fierce controversy on Chinese social media. The incident forced local education authorities to intervene and rectify the situation.
Currently, Ms. Vuong - the principal of Han Lam kindergarten - has been dismissed, because she was the one who organized the meeting for parents to swear to... "behave in a civilized manner".

During the oath, parents are asked to place their hands on their chests. The oath prepared by the school is quite long, and is considered a commitment to the parents' behavior towards the school's teachers.
Specifically, the oath mentions that parents will not use "chat" tools to ask teachers to do small tasks for their children, for example: "give the child water", "change the child's clothes"... Parents are also not allowed to be unreasonably angry with teachers when their children are sick or have minor injuries while playing with friends.
"No matter what happens, we promise not to get angry or yell at the teachers. We will communicate with the most civilized and positive attitude. We will trust, understand, and sympathize with the teachers, because they have to look after many children at the same time...", this is part of the rather long oath that the school has prepared for the parents.
Although the parents attending the meeting happily took the oath, the clip recording the incident caused fierce controversy on Chinese social media.
Many people think that the school has gone too far in the way it interacts with parents. The oath that the school requires parents to take shows a lack of respect for parents. Some of the oaths are even considered very... humorous and silly.

However, many netizens expressed their understanding for preschool teachers, because they have to work very hard in class and also have to endure a lot of pressure from worried parents.
Before the scandal broke out, Ms. Vuong - former principal of Han Lam Kindergarten - said she was very surprised by the public reaction and did not expect the incident to be so serious.
"Our initial goal was to set rules of communication and behavior between parents and teachers, to reduce pressure on teachers. Many parents are too worried about sending their children to kindergarten, so they constantly contact teachers. They ask a lot, demand a lot, but all of them are not really necessary, causing a significant impact on teachers' work," said Ms. Vuong.
Ms. Vuong gave the example of giving children water. Teachers at the school are required to give children water nine times a day, ensuring that they get enough water. However, some parents are too worried and often remind teachers to give their children water.
In response to the controversy surrounding Han Lam Kindergarten, local authorities in the education sector have issued a decision to reprimand the school's board of directors and remove the principal from office for creating negative public opinion and behaving inappropriately toward parents.
