Hezbollah's deputy leader in Lebanon, Sheikh Naim Qassem, delivered a video address from an undisclosed location on September 30, just days after leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
In his speech, Deputy Leader Qassem declared that Hezbollah still has full military capacity and is ready to respond to Israel's ground attack, despite the death of the group's leader and many senior commanders.
"We will face all possibilities and we are ready if Israel decides to enter Lebanon by land," Qassem said, speaking for the first time since the group's leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed last week. He insisted Tel Aviv would not achieve its goal.
He added that Hezbollah would choose a new leader as soon as possible through "internal mechanisms" but did not say when the process would take place. He also did not say when Nasrallah's funeral would be held.
The deputy leader also accused Israel of carrying out massacres in every area of Lebanon until there was no house left that did not bear traces of Israeli attacks. "Israel is attacking civilians, ambulances, children and the elderly. They are not fighting militants but carrying out massacres," he said.
Deputy leader Qassem stressed the role of the United States, which he called "Israel's partner, through unlimited military support, cultural, political, financial".
"We will win, just like we won the confrontation with Israel in 2006," the Hezbollah deputy leader said at the end of the message.
