The journey of 'giving love' of a girl infected with Agent Orange

Born with damaged legs due to Agent Orange, young girl Hoang Thi Phuong (22 years old, from Quang Long commune, Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province) has had to face many difficulties since she was a child. However, with her iron will and constant efforts, she has risen to become a shining example for the community.

Since birth, Hoang Thi Phuong has had a missing kneecap, which prevents her legs from bending like a normal person. During her childhood, she underwent many surgeries to be able to stand on her own two feet. However, even at the age of 3, Phuong still could not walk on her own and had to use her hands instead of her feet. It was not until she was 4 that Phuong was able to take her first steps, although it was extremely difficult and struggling. Also because of her physical defect, Phuong gradually withdrew from the teasing of her friends.

After finishing grade 9, Phuong decided not to take the high school entrance exam but to study at a vocational school for disabled youth, despite the objections of her parents, teachers and friends. From here, Hoang Thi Phuong's life turned a new page. Studying in an environment with many friends with different types of disabilities, Phuong gradually became more aware of her own difficulties and sympathized with those less fortunate. Since then, she has always been thinking about how to help people in such difficult circumstances. After 2 months of studying at the vocational school, Hoang Thi Phuong was inspired to return to continue studying to finish high school. In 2020, Phuong registered for the university entrance exam and successfully passed the Special Education major at Hanoi Capital University. It seemed that her physical disability would cause Hoang Thi Phuong to have difficulties during her university years, but the young girl still had a brilliant student life like everyone else. Phuong even "borrowed" her own difficulties as motivation to help more people in less fortunate circumstances. Right from her first year, Phuong volunteered for programs such as Giving love to children in mountainous areas or Voluntary blood donation. Gradually, Phuong received the trust of everyone and became Vice President of the Hanoi Disabled Students Club. In 2023, Hoang Thi Phuong became a delegate at the program "Shining Vietnamese willpower", representing the generation of young people with disabilities in Vietnam to rise up in life. Not only studying hard and actively participating in community activities, Hoang Thi Phuong also focuses on health training. The young girl has a great love for sports, because for her, sports not only help her become stronger but also relieve her psychology and emotions. Witnessing the positive changes that sports bring, Phuong decided to register to join the Sports Club for the disabled and excelled in achieving a number of achievements in sports. Currently, Phuong is also honored to be part of the first referee team of Vietnamese disabled sports to be granted national certification. On her journey of spreading love, Hoang Thi Phuong always has friends and dear teammates. Phuong expressed her deep gratitude to those who have always accompanied her from her first steps, until now when she continues to embark on the meaningful journey ahead. For Phuong, everyone's love and passion for sports have completely changed her life. During 4 years of studying in Hanoi, Hoang Thi Phuong has changed a lot. No longer the confident, shy girl who was afraid of being teased by her friends like when she was young, now Phuong can travel, work and explore her full potential. The young girl has gone on a long journey with the mission of spreading love and has no intention of stopping. After graduating from university, in addition to working in the education sector, Phuong still wishes to continue developing projects for the disabled community. The young girl Hoang Thi Phuong is a living proof of a positive attitude towards life, always able to fly into the green days with joy even though life is full of hardships ahead.
