On June 13, Nio announced the fourth generation of battery swapping stations for the Chinese luxury electric vehicle maker, with two new battery swapping stations located in Guangdong Province and Anhui Province.
The new generation of battery stations being introduced will be more open, supporting services for multi-brand vehicles with more battery pack sizes.
Nio's new battery swap station reduces the time per service by 22%, increases the number of batteries stored to 23, and provides up to 480 charging services per day.

Nio's first generation battery station launched in 2020 could only hold 5 batteries, now the fourth generation, the number of swappable batteries has more than 4 times.
In terms of technology, the fourth-generation station is equipped with six ultra-wide-angle LiDAR sensors and four Nvidia Orin X chips that allow cars with autonomous driving technology to enter the station, and the driver only needs to get out of the car from outside the door.
Across China, Nio has set up 2,432 battery swapping stations, 804 of which are located along highways.
The company plans to continue adding 1,000 battery swapping stations in China this year, bringing the total to more than 3,310 stations.
According to Nio, battery swapping stations can break even if they provide 60 services per day, which is currently around 30 charges per day.
Nio is one of the few electric vehicle makers betting on battery swapping as a technology option, with a battery swap network that takes just two minutes, faster than filling up with gas.
However, there was also an incident where a Nio electric car dropped its battery onto the road due to a loose battery pack after leaving the swap station.
Currently, the Chinese and Indian markets are implementing battery swapping solutions for passenger cars, while other markets only swap batteries for buses and special-purpose vehicles.
