Recently, Vietnamese goods have been promoted for export through many distribution systems such as Saigon Coop, AEON, Central Retail... and brought good results.
Vietnamese goods increase exports through distribution channels
At the Gala 15 years of the Industry and Trade sector implementing the Campaign for Vietnamese people to prioritize using Vietnamese goods, Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc - General Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives ( Saigon Co.op ) said that, in parallel with distributing Vietnamese products and goods in the domestic market, Saigon Co.op is currently exporting Vietnamese goods through distribution channels.
Accordingly, in 2023, through cooperation with NUTC Fair Price - a professional modern retail unit with over 260 supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores, etc., contributing 57% of the market share in Singapore, Saigon Co.op will export Vietnamese agricultural and seafood products to the Singapore market with a total export value of nearly 90 billion VND.
Most recently, Saigon Co.op has cooperated with STC Natural Vina Company to export goods to the US market. The group of goods selected for export this time includes fish sauce, vermicelli, pho, spices, tea, coffee... with an order value of nearly 70,000 USD. All products will be sold at the H-mart supermarket system of Hee Chang Group.
Along with the participation of Saigon Co.op, in recent times, implementing the Project "Promoting Vietnamese enterprises to directly participate in foreign distribution systems by 2030" of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnamese goods have been promoted to be exported to the AEON system. Through the project, many types of Vietnamese products that meet high Japanese standards have been imported by AEON and put into consumption at hundreds of supermarkets in the AEON system in Japan and in other countries.

According to statistics from AEON, the current output of goods purchased in Vietnam into our system has grown strongly over the years, doubling each year and is expected to reach 1 billion USD by 2025 - in accordance with AEON's commitment to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Many Vietnamese agricultural products such as bananas, fresh mangoes, etc. have been 100% purchased by AEON from Vietnam. Vietnamese products are considered to have superior quality compared to similar products from Thailand, the Philippines, etc.
According to AEON, the stability of AEON's global supply chain in recent years has been contributed by suppliers in Vietnam. In the future, this group will look for manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam that have the capacity and meet the requirements.
meet AEON's criteria and standards to become a sustainable supplier not only in Vietnam, but also in the global Aeon TopValu system. With the textile group, AEON focuses on garment products with integrated features, such as UV protection, water resistance...
In addition to these distribution channels, over the years, Vietnamese goods have been exported abroad through many other distribution channels such as supermarkets of Central Retail Group, Lotte... Mr. Paul Le, Vice President of Central Retail said that through many Vietnamese Goods Weeks organized at supermarket systems in Thailand, Thai consumers are very fond of Vietnamese products such as longan, dragon fruit, pho, coffee... The export turnover of goods through the supermarket system of Thailand has been constantly increasing and is forecast to continue to increase strongly in the near future.
Focus on the "green" factor
Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, economic expert Vu Vinh Phu said that Vietnam has now deeply integrated so it cannot “be alone in one market” but needs to increase exchanges to find more partners and markets for itself. In particular, exporting through foreign distribution channels is one of the right choices.
Accordingly, exporting through foreign distribution systems has many benefits.
Firstly, exporting through foreign distribution channels shows that the company's products have met standards and are of good quality. Because, entering the distribution system in the domestic market is difficult, exporting goods through distribution channels is even more difficult.
Second, currently, businesses still export goods to importers and then sell them to retailers, so sometimes the products will be sold under the importer's brand. If goods are brought directly to foreign distribution channels, it will increase the opportunity for Vietnamese goods to be sold under Vietnamese brands.
However, Mr. Vu Vinh Phu also said that it is not easy to bring goods directly into large distribution chains. The proof is that currently, export turnover through supermarket systems is still modest and focuses on products that we have strengths in such as coffee, fruit, processed foods, etc. Therefore, Vietnamese enterprises need to continue to improve product quality, meet market criteria to bring goods into distribution channels.
On the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry is currently promoting the implementation of the Project "Promoting Vietnamese enterprises to directly participate in foreign distribution systems by 2030". In which, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also directs enterprises to focus on converting to green and sustainable production. Because according to the survey, the demand of international buyers coming to Vietnam this year is to choose green products, low-emission production.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade promotes the implementation of a major trade promotion event, the annual Vietnam International Sourcing Fair. This is an opportunity for businesses to seek orders from customers who are large foreign distribution channels such as Walmart, Amazon, Carrefour, Central Group; Coppel, etc.
