The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just informed about the trade defense situation of foreign markets with Vietnam's export goods.

In 2024, out of 28 new trade defense cases initiated by foreign countries investigating Vietnamese export goods from 12 markets, 13 cases were from the US market .

In the context of increasing trade defense cases related to appeals, last year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade continued to implement trade defense measures to respond to defense cases investigated and applied by foreign countries to Vietnam's export goods.

To date, there have been 270 trade defense investigations from 25 markets and territories investigating Vietnam's exports. The leading cases are anti-dumping investigations (148 cases), followed by self-defense investigations (54 cases), anti-circumvention of trade defense measures (38 cases) and anti-subsidy investigations (30 cases).

"The Ministry of Industry and Trade has promptly completed the investigation of a number of defense cases initiated in 2023 and reviewed the application of defense measures requiring handling in 2024. With the active participation of businesses, the Ministry has supported in providing information to guide the response to the questionnaire; studied arguments at specific stages of each case; at the same time, studied conclusions and sent consultation letters to foreign investigation agencies," the Ministry's report stated.

The warning list of goods at risk of being investigated for defense and anti-tax evasion is also updated at the end of each quarter and sent to relevant ministries, branches, provincial People's Committees, Associations, and enterprises for coordination and monitoring.

On the contrary, in the context of many imported goods showing signs of dumping or being subsidized, causing serious damage to a number of domestic manufacturing industries, the work of initiating lawsuits, investigating, and applying trade defense measures continues to be promoted, aiming to create an environment of equal competition.

To date, Vietnam has initiated investigations into 30 trade defense cases and applied 22 measures to imported goods, with 16 trade defense measures currently in effect.

In 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to investigate and review 7 cases initiated in 2023; initiate investigations of 3 new cases, initiate reviews of 3 end-of-term reviews; receive and process 7 new investigation and review requests.
