Ninja Van is a multinational shipping service company, mainly operating in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. Its main field of operation is transporting e-commerce orders. Recently, some users discovered that this company uses a map service provided by a third party, integrated on its website in the Vietnamese market, but does not fully represent territorial waters and sovereignty.

Specifically, the map used by Ninja Van does not have any markings, annotations or signs showing the location or names of the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa in Vietnam's sovereign territorial waters. The sea area in this area is only written in English as "South China Sea" instead of the East Sea (of Vietnam). When zooming in on the area of the two archipelagos, users only see very general colored dots, no annotations and no other details.

The map violating Vietnam's sovereignty used by Ninja Van has been temporarily removed since noon on May 27.

According to research, this map is provided by Mapbox and OpenStreetMap services. Both units confirm that they are releasing maps that are detailed and accurate to every location around the world. The map on OpenStreetMap's page shows the location of the Paracel Islands but is labeled with the Chinese name "Sansha". The Spratly Islands area is divided into many different names, most of which are given by China, with only a small part labeled "Khanh Hoa Province".

The incident was discovered on May 25 and by noon on May 27, Ninja Van's website had hidden the map after Vietnamese media reported on the issue. It is currently unclear when Ninja Van started using the above-mentioned map service. Meanwhile, the company's representative has yet to provide official information regarding the two archipelagos under Vietnam's sovereignty "disappearing" from the map of the domestic service.

Ninja Van is a Singaporean logistics company, founded in 2014. Currently, the company operates mainly in countries including Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The company has been present in Vietnam since 2016 but it was not until 2017 that it officially "made its name" in the market.
