As early as 8:30 p.m. on January 4, 250 Vietnamese fans, waving red flags with yellow stars, arrived at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) on a midnight flight (taking off at 11:45 p.m.) to Bangkok (Thailand) to cheer for the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final.
A representative of Vietravel Hanoi Tourism Company said that the total number of fans registering for the football cheering tour (AFF Cup 2024 final return leg) is up to more than 1,000 guests from both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. After the group departing on the night of January 4, the remaining fans will continue their journey on the morning of January 5.
Despite the late night flight, many fans from provinces far from Hanoi such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong had to leave at 2-3pm to prepare for the trip. However, all the fans were in an excited mood, preparing banners and national flags to cheer for the home team to win.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu (51 years old, Hai Phong), a long-time fan of the Vietnam national team, always carries the 3kg trophy when cheering for important matches.
“After Vietnam won the semi-final, I immediately booked a ticket with Vietravel Hanoi, the team that reached the finals, no matter which country they went to, would book me a ticket. For the match on the evening of January 5, I am sure that the Golden Dragon warriors will fight with all their might and bring home the victory. I predict the final score will be 1-1,” Mr. Hieu shared.
The enthusiasm of the fans before boarding the plane, many people enthusiastically chanted the slogan "Vietnam is the champion".
At 8:00 p.m. on January 5, the Vietnamese team will visit Rajamangala Stadium (Thailand) in the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final. Fans carrying the national flag and the gold cup will give strength to Kim Sang Sik and his team.
On the plane, hundreds of passengers sang the national anthem, many people were surprised and moved when singing the national anthem for the first time in such a special space.
Many people took a nap to keep up their energy to cheer for the team the next day, while others were still excited and eager to witness the final match between Vietnam and Thailand in just a few hours.
At around 3:15 a.m. (local time) on the morning of January 5, 250 fans landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. That afternoon, fans will have about 3 hours to check in before the match at Rajamangala Stadium.
