South Korea changes leadership of national intelligence agency

According to Yonhap, on November 26, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol accepted the resignation of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Kim Kyou-hyun.

The South Korean presidential office said that Mr. Yoon Suk-yeol also accepted the resignations of two NIS deputy directors, Kwon Chun-taek and Kim Soo-youn.

The announcement from the South Korean Presidential Office stated that Mr. Kim Kyou-hyun has contributed to "rebuilding the reputation of the NIS as a national intelligence and security agency" and "established a support mechanism with intelligence organizations of friendly countries" during the period of changing administrations.

Also according to the South Korean Presidential Office, former diplomat Hong Jang-won will be appointed as First Deputy Director of the NIS and temporarily assume the position of acting Director of the NIS.
