Hai Phong honors 10 families and 169 individuals for outstanding voluntary blood donations

On the morning of June 3, at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Central Red Journey Organizing Committee coordinated with the Hai Phong City Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee to organize the "Red Drops of Hai Phong Blood Donation Festival and Honoring Outstanding Blood Donors" in 2023.

According to the organizers, in order to honor the noble gesture of those who voluntarily donate blood to save lives, since 2004, the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Blood Transfusion Society and the International Association of Blood Donor Organizations have agreed to choose June 14 every year as World Blood Donor Day.

Families and individuals with outstanding achievements in the voluntary blood donation movement received certificates of merit from the Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

Member countries of the World Health Organization have agreed that this is an important event held annually, marked by organizing activities to recognize and honor those who have donated blood.

Mr. Le Lam, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Deputy Head of the Red Journey Organizing Committee, said that the Red Journey program was first implemented in 2013 and to date, 58 provinces and cities across the country have successfully participated in organizing this program, attracting millions of participants and receiving nearly 700,000 units of blood.

In 2022 and the first 6 months of 2023, Hai Phong City's voluntary blood donation movement organized 126 mobile blood donation campaigns, mobilizing more than 51,000 units of blood. Thanks to that, Hai Phong not only has enough blood to serve medical treatment at the city's hospitals but also helps provide blood to a number of hospitals in neighboring provinces during times of blood shortage.

In recognition of their contributions over the past time, on the occasion of World Voluntary Blood Donor Day 2023, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society awarded certificates of merit to 4 families and 2 individuals; the Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 4 families and 21 individuals; the Executive Committee of the Hai Phong City Red Cross Society awarded certificates of merit to 2 families and 146 individuals with outstanding achievements in the city's voluntary blood donation movement.
