On March 7, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province held a ceremony to honor and award the title "Honorary Citizen of Thua Thien Hue" to two female foreign experts on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8.

They are Ms. Andrea Teufel (German nationality, chief representative of the German Cultural Heritage Preservation Association) and Ms. Kazuyo Watanabe (Japanese nationality, president of the Asia-Japan Child Care Federation).

Ms. Andrea Teufel is a heritage conservation expert who has been involved in the revival and promotion of Hue heritage values ​​for the past 21 years.

One of the notable projects carried out by Ms. Teufel and her colleagues is the restoration of the main gate system, screens and rockery in the Phung Tien Palace area.

This temple is one of the most important religious buildings located in the Hue Imperial Palace and was completely destroyed by war.

"I am very happy and proud that Hue has recognized my contributions and activities, and welcomed me as an honorary citizen of the city and of Thua Thien Hue province, which I have always considered my second home," said Ms. Teufel.

Ms. Kazuyo Watanabe is a Japanese expert who has made great contributions to the process of building the Pediatric Center of Hue Central Hospital into a place to treat children with cancer.

Through the Asian Child Care Federation, which she founded, Ms. Watanabe has brought a lot of modern equipment from Japan to Hue Central Hospital to treat children with cancer.

Through her efforts, Ms. Watanabe has reduced the rate of families who abandon the hospital and refuse cancer treatment for their children at Hue Central Hospital from 50% to less than 5%. Since then, hundreds of children have had their lives extended, thanks in part to the tireless efforts of Ms. Watanabe and her colleagues.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, said that dedication, contribution and sharing are the things that every foreigner living and working in Thua Thien Hue province always wants to do to contribute to the development of the province, thereby creating a better living environment.

With the title of "Honorary Citizen" awarded to Ms. Andrea Teufel and Ms. Kazuyo Watanabe, the Chairman of Thua Thien Hue province said that this is the province's deep gratitude for what the two ladies have done and are doing.
