Two 10th grade students passed the exam to join the national 12th grade math team

(Dan Tri) - Among the 20 members of Hanoi's national math team this year, there are two 10th graders, one of whom studies at a private school.
Ha Dang An and Ha Manh Hung are two 10th graders of the Hanoi national math team. For many years, the national math team has not had 10th graders. The number of 11th graders taking the advanced level exam is also not high. However, 2025 is an exception when 10th and 11th graders account for 14/20 students. Ha Manh Hung, a 10th grader at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, is a familiar face in recent exams. His score in the national team selection round was 28.5, ranking 9th. In the public 10th grade entrance exam, Hung scored 9.5 points in specialized math, 10 points in general math, 10 points in English and 8.25 points in literature, becoming the valedictorian of the school's specialized math exam. Previously, Hung was the valedictorian of the University of Education High School for the Gifted with a near-perfect specialized math score of 9.75 points. During his 4 years in secondary school, Hung achieved many outstanding achievements in math. In the 2023-2024 school year, Ha Manh Hung was the valedictorian at the district level and won first prize at the city level in math. At the 2021 International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) in Indonesia, Ha Manh Hung brought home 1 of 2 gold medals for the Vietnamese team while in 6th grade. At the 2021 International Junior Mathematics Competition (IMC), Ha Manh Hung was 1 of 9 Hanoi students who won a silver medal. Also at this exam in 2022, he won a gold medal at the 8th grade level while in 7th grade. In the 2022 American Mathematics Competitions (AMC8), Ha Manh Hung entered the top 1% of high-scoring candidates worldwide with 24/25 points. Previously, at the 2021 AMC8 exam, he achieved a perfect score of 25/25, being the youngest candidate to achieve the highest score. Ha Dang An - Class 10G0, Newton Secondary and High School - also achieved many outstanding achievements at the secondary level. In grade 9, An won the second prize for excellent students in the city in math, then transferred from Nam Tu Liem Secondary School to Newton School. In the public 10th grade entrance exam, An passed the math major of the following schools: Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Natural Science High School for the Gifted, and University of Education High School for the Gifted. However, the male student chose to continue studying at Newton High School with a full scholarship. This year's Hanoi national math team has 10 Ams students, 5 Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, 1 Chu Van An student and 4 Newton students. This is the first year that private school students have entered this team. Notably, all 4 students passed the exam. In addition to Ha Dang An, the remaining 3 students are in grade 11: Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, Ngo Quy Duong and Ngo Duc Minh Dang. At Hung Vuong Summer Camp 2024, Ngo Quy Duong, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen and Ha Dang An all won Gold medals in Math. Ngo Duc Minh Dang won Silver medals in Math. In the national physics team, Newton School also contributed 1 student, Hoang Pham Minh Khanh. Khanh also took the exam while in grade 11. He is also the student who brought the highest achievement for the Vietnamese team at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2024 with a Silver medal.
