Identifying tourism as an important economic sector of the locality, in recent years, Hai Ha district has focused on developing tourism associated with preserving and promoting local ethnic cultural values, contributing to socio-economic development and improving the cultural life of the people.
As a mountainous and border district, Hai Ha district has 11 communes and towns, including 5 communes in the mountainous ethnic minority area and 1 island commune (Quang Son, Quang Duc, Quang Phong, Quang Thinh, Duong Hoa, Cai Chien). The whole district has 13 ethnic groups living, of which ethnic minorities account for 25%.
The project "Developing tourism and preserving and promoting ethnic cultural values in Hai Ha district for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030" has identified developing tourism products based on the potential strengths and cultural identity, natural values of the locality, such as: Community cultural tourism in Quang Duc commune, Quang Son commune; Spiritual festival cultural tourism at Tran Hung Dao temple, Hai Ha pagoda, Cai Chien communal house; Experiential tourism to visit tea hills in Quang Long commune...
Implementing this Project, Hai Ha district has been focusing on implementing tourism promotion activities in many diverse forms, with clear goals and effectiveness. These include prioritizing annual budget funds and mobilizing social resources for investment promotion and local tourism promotion. At the same time, increasing support for tourism infrastructure at community tourism sites; encouraging and supporting the community to participate in preserving and developing folk cultural values, festivals and traditional occupations, local specialty products, etc.
From 2023 to present, Hai Ha district has opened many training classes, teaching and restoring rituals, traditional occupations, and intangible culture, such as: Dao ethnic group's ordination ceremony class; Dao Thanh Y and Dao Thanh Phan ethnic group's handicraft embroidery class...; established 14 folk art clubs with more than 150 members participating; collected and built exhibition spaces to introduce Dao ethnic cultural characteristics in Quang Son commune. Community activities attracting a large number of people, tourists and ethnic minorities to participate, such as: Hai Ha district's Ethnic Culture and Sports Festival; Hai Ha district Residential Area Singing Festival; Photography and painting contest and exhibition; Tra Duong Hoa Cultural Tourism Festival; Song Mun Festival, Cai Chien Summer Tourism Week; maintaining 4/4 traditional festivals (Tran Hung Dao Temple Festival, To Temple, Quang Linh Temple, Mi Son Temple). Build many new and attractive tourism products, organize many promotional activities, promote and introduce local tourism.
Currently, Hai Ha district has been recognized by the province for 2 routes and 3 tourist destinations, including: Route 1 "Tran Hung Dao Temple, Hai Ha Pagoda - Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate", Route 2 "Tran Hung Dao Temple, Hai Ha Pagoda - Cai Chien Island"; 3 tourist destinations are "Tran Hung Dao Temple, Hai Ha Pagoda", "Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate", "Cai Chien Island". Initially, the district focuses on orienting to attract and build key, unique tourism products, such as: Sightseeing, research, and experience of Dao ethnic culture in Quang Duc and Quang Son communes; High-class sea and island resort tourism; combining golf, sightseeing, and ecological research in Cai Chien island commune; Mountain lake resort tourism, combined with weekend entertainment; sightseeing and experiencing community culture at Truc Bai Son lake (Quang Son commune).
Along with that, specific tourism product groups with local significance have also begun to take shape and initially attract tourists, such as: High-tech agricultural eco-tourism associated with OCOP products; VietGAP (Quang Minh, Duong Hoa, Quang Thanh, Quang Long communes); Cultural - festival - spiritual tourism (Quang Ha town, Cai Chien, Quang Minh, Duong Hoa communes); Adventure sports tourism: Mountain climbing, wading through streams, crossing waterfalls, trekking to explore primeval forests (Quang Duc, Quang Son, Cai Chien communes); Tourism to visit war relics: Cao Fort, Doc Cong Troi, Cao Ba Lanh peak...
The implementation of the Project "Developing tourism and preserving and promoting ethnic cultural values in Hai Ha district for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030" has seen many improvements. In 2023, the whole district welcomed 102,000 tourists, with revenue reaching 134 billion VND, exceeding the plan by 24%. By the end of May 2024, Hai Ha district welcomed 71,000 visitors, with revenue reaching 119.6 billion VND, exceeding the plan by 51%. The indicators on tourist accommodation facilities and the number of workers working in the tourism sector in the district increased, reaching and exceeding the annual targets.
