Haaland "missed" Man City's match against Newcastle

Haaland needs more time to return to play for Man City.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Haaland's injury recovery is slower than expected, not only will he be absent from Man City's match against Newcastle tonight, at 0:30 on January 14.

Haaland has returned to training with Man City in recent days, looking radiant alongside De Druyne, Doku... However, while the latter two have returned, with the Belgian midfielder assisting Doku to score against Man City 5-0 Huddersfield in the FA Cup third round, Pep Guardiola reported bad news about their number one striker.

Haaland has missed Man City's last 8 matches and will continue to miss tonight's trip to Newcastle, round 21 of the Premier League. The Norwegian striker has not played since Man City's 0-1 Aston Villa match on December 6, 2023 due to a foot injury.

Pep Guardiola said: “Haaland’s situation is a little longer than we expected. Hopefully he can be back by the end of January.”

The Man City captain added: "Haaland needs more time to recover because of the bone problem."

In addition to Haaland, Pep Guardiola said John Stones will also sit out Man City's match against Newcastle due to an ankle injury.

Man City are currently third, five points behind leaders Liverpool but with a game in hand. The defending champions will be aiming to get three points against Newcastle to close the gap to Jurgen Klopp's side to two points.
