Russian President Vladimir Putin and newly appointed Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin
At the plenary session on the evening of May 10 (Vietnam time), the Russian House of Representatives officially voted to approve Mr. Mikhail Mishustin as prime minister as nominated by President Putin, according to TASS News Agency.
Previously, Mr. Mishustin had served as Prime Minister of Russia since January 2020 until the entire cabinet resigned as stipulated in the Constitution, right before Mr. Putin was sworn in for a new term on May 7. The old cabinet members continued to work until the new government was appointed.
Mishustin is expected to present his nominations for deputy prime ministers and non-security ministerial posts. The lower house of parliament is scheduled to vote on the deputy prime ministers on May 13 and on the ministers on May 14.
At the same time, President Putin nominated to the Russian Federation Council (upper house) candidates to head ministries related to the country's security, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to Sputnik News.
The Russian Senate will vote on the above positions.
Russia's cabinet is unlikely to change much during President Putin's fifth term, sending a message of political stability in Russia both at home and abroad.
