According to the announcement, the Literature and Mathematics exams are essay-based, with a time limit of 120 minutes. The remaining subjects are multiple-choice with a time limit of 60 minutes.

In particular, the Literature exam still has two parts: Reading Comprehension and Writing, worth 4 and 6 points respectively. The Math sample exam has 5 questions, including thinking and reasoning content (three points), problem solving (4.5) and modeling (2.5).

For multiple-choice subjects, the number of questions ranges from 22 to 40. The points are not evenly distributed among the questions, similar to the Ministry of Education and Training 's direction for next year's high school graduation exam.

The Department stated that questions at the knowledge level will account for 20%, while those at the comprehension and application levels will each account for 40%. For integrated subjects and Informatics, this ratio will be divided according to question types. Schools need to study and apply this exam structure in teaching and review to familiarize students with new multiple-choice formats such as true/false and short answer.

Specifically for Literature, teachers avoid using materials from the textbook during tests, in order to overcome the problem of rote learning.

According to representatives from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the early issuance of the exam structure and format for the 10th grade entrance exam in the 2025-2026 school year is of great importance, contributing to guiding students, teachers, and school administrators in the city in organizing teaching, learning, and exam preparation.

Based on the structure and format of the entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requests that district-level Departments of Education and Training strengthen the development of question banks and test matrices as required.

The Department of Education and Training also encourages schools to build test question libraries so that students can familiarize themselves with the new question format. Schools need to apply appropriate test question structures and formats for each subject while increasing the number of multiple-choice question formats that are appearing in exams for the first time.

The 2025-2026 school year will be the first year that the entrance exam for 10th grade in high schools will be conducted according to the 2018 General Education Program.
