Regarding sustainable groundwater management in the Mekong Delta, the geopolitical location has made this delta vulnerable to climate change and extreme weather events. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment hopes that the Netherlands will support and share experiences in researching comprehensive solutions for water storage to solve the problem of excess water in the flood season and water shortage in the dry season in the Mekong Delta, helping to balance water resources and bring the Mekong Delta to a state of sustainable development.

Regarding activities at the International Commission on Deltas and Coastal Areas, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh assessed that this is a good platform to share knowledge on climate adaptation. The Department of Climate Change, the Department of Water Resources Management and the Standing Office of the Vietnam Mekong River Commission will coordinate with the Netherlands to make proposals to improve national capacity to exploit water resources in the context of climate change, supporting the livelihoods of people in the Mekong Delta.

At the meeting, the two Ministers also discussed the development of a program to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Framework on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Resources Management between the two countries. This is an opportunity for friends in the region and the world to know that the two countries are making efforts to comply with international commitments on climate change adaptation.
