The project “Promoting exports to the European market through an e-commerce platform for women-owned businesses in Vietnam” aims to support businesses to gain deeper access to digital commerce, opening up many opportunities for women-owned businesses.
On the afternoon of November 25, the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) held a launching ceremony for the project to promote exports to the European market through an e-commerce platform for women-owned businesses in Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Trade Promotion Agency Vu Ba Phu said that following the success of the Competition "Women Entrepreneurs with Successful Business Plans" in 2021 and the Workshop "Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs - Striving for Success" in 2022, the Trade Promotion Agency in conjunction with the SheTrades program of the International Trade Center (ITC SheTrades) and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam jointly organized the Launching Ceremony of the Project "Promoting exports to the European market through an e-commerce platform for women-owned businesses in Vietnam" to support businesses to have deeper access to digital trade, opening up many opportunities for women-owned businesses.
The launch event aims to provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities for women entrepreneurs in digital commerce and includes training sessions on key e-commerce concepts, with a focus on expanding business into European (EU) markets.

In addition, the benefits of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which helps reduce tariffs and improve access to the EU market, increase the export potential of Vietnamese women-led businesses. In addition, exploit e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba.com to access global markets.
According to Mr. Vu Ba Phu, in the current business context, digital transformation has become an indispensable factor, determining the success and sustainable development of each enterprise. Vietnam is witnessing a digital era, where the application of technology in management and operation not only helps optimize processes, reduce costs but also opens up new opportunities, helping businesses grow dramatically and compete effectively in the market.
“Women own approximately 22% of all businesses in Vietnam. However, they continue to face significant challenges, including limited financial resources, digital literacy gaps, and limited access to credit. In addition, gender stereotypes, security concerns, and difficulties navigating e-commerce platforms limit their potential to expand and compete internationally,” said Judith Fessehaie, SheTrades Manager, International Trade Centre (ITC).
Accordingly, Ms. Judith Fessehaie said that this is where the support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Enterprise Agency comes into play, together turning these challenges into opportunities through the program. The program equips female entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge to participate in cross-border trade activities, especially in the European market.
“Through tailored training programs and comprehensive support in accessing e-commerce platforms like Alibaba.com, we are helping women entrepreneurs adapt to the digital economy and unlock the enormous potential of global trade,” said Judith Fessehaie.

In recent times, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, through the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, has been actively supporting Vietnam in improving the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises, especially those led by women.
As a government agency under the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency aims to support companies and investment organisations to develop and expand their business activities both domestically and internationally. This is achieved through support for companies, entrepreneurs, NGOs, research organisations and policy-making bodies.
In Vietnam, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency has funded several initiatives to enhance the capacity of enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, in the field of e-commerce. A notable effort is the implementation of the “E-commerce Capacity Building for Women-Led Enterprises” program under the auspices of SheTrades in Vietnam.
Therefore, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency’s support for the project “Promoting exports to the European market through an e-commerce platform for women-owned enterprises in Vietnam” represents a continuation of ongoing support initiatives in Vietnam.
This project is of strategic importance as it not only aims to enhance export capacity but also to create long-term cooperation between Vietnamese and Dutch enterprises. It demonstrates the commitment to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two countries and is in line with the goal of enhancing the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises.
By addressing key challenges such as market access, digital transformation and capacity building, the project will play a key role in advancing Vietnam’s socio-economic development agenda. Furthermore, the project will contribute to gender equality by supporting women entrepreneurs, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to thrive in the global marketplace.
