(HNMO) - On the afternoon of May 14, the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VSMEs) held its 6th Congress for the 2023-2028 term. Chairman of the VSMEs Nguyen Van Than; leaders of central ministries, departments, and branches; Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen attended.
With the theme: "Solidarity, innovation, sustainable development, breakthrough success", the Congress focused on implementing important tasks including: Summarizing and evaluating the Association's work and activities for the 2018-2023 term; building goals and directions for the Association's activities for the 6th term; electing the Executive Committee of the 6th term, 2023-2028 term and praising collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements.
Contributing more than 45% of GDP to the city
The report on the implementation of the Congress resolution for the 2018-2023 term shows that the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises has successfully completed its assigned tasks. The Association has played a good role in gathering, uniting, and helping each other to create strength for the small and medium enterprise community in the city, and is a bridge for economic cooperation between member enterprises of all sectors with the aim of improving business capacity and competitiveness of enterprises.
During the past term, the Association has admitted nearly 6,200 new members, bringing the total number to nearly 10,047. The Association currently has 25 clubs, district and county branches, and legal consulting, trade promotion and business support centers to care for and protect the legitimate interests of its members.
The Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises has actively coordinated with departments and branches to remove difficulties, propose many mechanisms and policies to support businesses in the area, especially during the 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic; strengthen domestic and foreign trade promotion activities, implement the linkage program between Hanoi and provinces and cities in the field of industry and trade; effectively implement the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods", along with programs on startups, digital transformation, development of key industrial products, stimulating consumption; stabilize the market and prices in the capital.
In addition to professional activities, the Association has joined the small and medium enterprise community in many union activities and social and charitable work.
Up to now, in Hanoi, there are about 360,000 enterprises, an average of 37 people in the capital/1 enterprise, 3.8 times higher than the national average. SMEs account for over 97.2% of enterprises in the area, constantly developing and innovating, contributing over 45% of GDP to the city, creating jobs for over 50% of the workforce.
Private economy - an important driving force of the capital's economy
Speaking at the Congress, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen highly appreciated the contributions of the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in supporting the city's business development in recent times. With the important mission of being the "extended arm" of the city government, the Association is truly a bridge connecting member businesses, a focal point for synthesizing and reflecting on difficulties, recommendations, and proposals, and directly implementing activities to support businesses.
“The achievements of the city in recent times have important contributions from the business community and entrepreneurs; the consensus and support of all classes of people. The city is always steadfast and persistent in implementing the goal of “accompanying businesses” and “developing the private economy into an important driving force of the capital’s economy”. With that spirit, the city wishes and calls on the business community and entrepreneurs to continue promoting the spirit of solidarity, mutually beneficial cooperation, courage, intelligence, entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, creativity; innovation of corporate governance models; sustainable development”, the Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee emphasized.
The city also hopes that the business community will promote the development of digital-based production and business solutions, accelerate digital transformation; apply new scientific and technological advances in the 4.0 industrial revolution to improve labor productivity and business efficiency; and continue to accompany the city in social security programs.
On behalf of the city leaders, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen presented a banner from the Hanoi Party Committee to congratulate the Congress. Also at the official session, award ceremonies were held by the City People's Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, and the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements.
Further improve the operational efficiency of the SME community
Previously, at the preparatory session, the Congress elected the 6th Executive Committee of the Association, consisting of 105 members. At the first meeting of the 6th Executive Committee, Mr. Do Quang Hien - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saigon Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank - was elected as the Chairman of the Association.
Accepting the direction of Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, the new Chairman of the Association for the 6th term, Do Quang Hien, said that he will unite with the new Executive Committee, determined to innovate and further improve the operational efficiency of the SME community in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general, contributing to the socio-economic development of the capital and the whole country.
Accordingly, the Association continues to closely follow the programs of the City Party Committee, the City Business Bloc Party Committee and the Party Committee to develop and organize the implementation of the proposed programs; issue programs to direct the implementation of political tasks and Party building work; organize activities to serve businesses; promote the improvement of the investment and business environment for businesses, contributing to promoting administrative procedure reform in the fields under the city's departments, branches and sectors.
The Association also focuses on developing a team of entrepreneurs, pioneering in promoting the building of Vietnamese business culture; focusing on building and developing a team of entrepreneurs in both quantity and quality; contributing to the goal of building a team of entrepreneurs with a spirit of dedication to the nation, with progressive cultural and ethical standards, actively fulfilling social responsibilities and participating in social development as set out in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and Resolution 17 of the Hanoi Party Committee...
