Not only contributing positively to business efficiency, Vinamilk's international business segment is also bringing the pride of the "Vietnamese brand" to the world. Continuously increasing export markets, increasingly diverse products, possessing many high world standards, Vinamilk is affirming that "made in Vietnam" milk has a place in the international market.
Effective trade promotion activities have had a great impact on Vinamilk's recent international business results.
Increase presence and create new connections
Vinamilk's milk export revenue has improved in the first 6 months of 2024 with a growth rate of more than 37%, continuing the growth momentum from 2023 to present, demonstrating the effectiveness of international business operations. This is considered the result of a process of combining trade support and promotion solutions, increasing brand presence, finding opportunities and developing new customer groups.
Sharing more about this, Mr. Vo Trung Hieu, International Business Director of Vinamilk said: “Participating in international exhibitions and fairs is a regular activity of Vinamilk. Here, we focus on introducing Vinamilk's international quality products and services to international partners. Many partners are surprised to know that Vietnam can produce dairy products with a series of high standards, delicious and very competitive prices”.
In just the first 6 months of this year, many new names have appeared in the list of 61 export markets of Vinamilk from Australia, South America and Africa. In addition to new markets, strategic partners and long-term cooperation will be developed in depth by the enterprise, for example in the Middle East, where there are partners who have worked with Vinamilk for 10-20 years.
“When visiting Vinamilk’s factory, we were really impressed by the closed process, from input to output, all of which are applied to international standards and highly automated. In addition, your packaging is also environmentally friendly, milk cartons are often reused by consumers in our market,” said Mr. Inam Ahmad Zia Ahmad, Vinamilk’s partner in the Middle East region, when visiting Vinamilk’s infant formula factory.

Product quality is still the key to "opening" the market
According to statistics, from the first exported product, Dielac branded infant formula, Vinamilk has now developed nearly 400 types of products for export to 61 countries. In which, quality standards are always the biggest barrier for all markets, especially for food and beverage products.... Recently, Vinamilk has exported another product, yogurt, to the US market right after achieving FDA (US food safety standards) for this product.
Production capacity, consistent quality, and meeting international standards are prerequisites for export enterprises. |
However, many countries have their own specific standards, which are also barriers that businesses need to overcome when they want to "unlock" the market. It can be said that this is also an advantage for Vinamilk when it owns a system of 13 factories with many international standards supporting exports such as: FSSC 22000 (International Food Safety Management System Certification - Netherlands), BRC (British Standards), SMETA Social Responsibility Standards, FDA (USA), Standards for Muslim countries HALAL, Organic EU (European Organic Standards), GMP (American Good Manufacturing Practices Standards) ....
Mr. Mai Ba Dung, Director of Saigon Milk Factory (Vinamilk), which produces products for export to the "difficult" markets of Australia and New Zealand, said: "Currently, the factory is meeting 683 million cold products for export each year. Each product leaving the factory will need to go through a controlled process with more than 9 standards both Vietnamese and international. With the characteristics of a cold product factory, we invest from the stage of receiving raw materials, processing, to the system of smart cold storage, temperature sensors... to ensure storage conditions to help products have the best quality."
Unlocking new competitive advantages and leveraging FTAs
The trend of sustainable development is also becoming the focus of world trade. In Australia and New Zealand, Vinamilk has joined the supply chain of the largest international supermarket chains in the Oceania region, such as Costco, Woolworths, and Foodstuff, thanks to meeting strict requirements for environmentally friendly packaging. In these two markets, Vinamilk recorded revenue growth of more than 50% compared to the same period last year.

In addition, fully exploiting the FTAs that Vietnam has signed has created a sales advantage, supporting Vinamilk's export growth. According to the business representative, the rate of granting C/O certificates of origin to receive tax incentives at Vinamilk is currently over 53%, higher than the average of 37.35% according to data compiled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. An example of effective FTA utilization shared by businesses is the Japanese and Canadian markets, with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Specifically, these two markets both recorded revenue growth of about 40% compared to the same period in 2023, although these are places with high standards for imported goods.
“According to the plan, we will continue to promote new markets with great potential such as Africa & South America… However, to exploit markets with FTAs, it is necessary to meet the requirements of origin, along with changes in raw materials and production lines to be able to meet related requirements,” Mr. Hieu added.
Up to now, Vinamilk has had more than 26 years of experience exporting dairy products abroad, with more than 300 product skus in the condensed milk, powdered milk, yogurt industries... with a total accumulated turnover of more than 3.3 billion USD.
