Cherish the power circuit

Possessing the UNESCO-recognized intangible heritage of humanity, the Cultural Space of Gongs in the Central Highlands, Dak Lak is the only province among the five provinces in the Central Highlands that has so far had five resolutions of the Provincial People's Council on preserving this heritage. This demonstrates the specific attention of the People's Council, the People's Committee of Dak Lak province, all levels and sectors to the heritage.

In particular, Resolution 05/2016/NQ-HDND on preserving and promoting gong culture has created motivation for localities throughout the province to pay attention and take strong action to preserve traditional culture.

Implementing Resolution 05, with specific plans from the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related documents, hundreds of sets of gongs and thousands of traditional costumes have been given to artisans in villages. In addition, many rituals, ceremonies and folk cultural activities have also been restored. Most importantly, there has been a positive change in awareness among the people.

Former Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province, Dang Gia Duan, once told us that gong culture is the foundation and driving force for preserving the values of other folk cultures of the Central Highlands ethnic groups. In the past, the “bleeding” of gongs occurred in all villages, but now it seems to no longer exist. On the contrary, more and more people love, cherish and preserve gongs.

Effectively implementing the policy of preserving folk culture, especially the space of gong culture, many traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities are maintained and restored in villages. That is an important condition for developing community tourism in ethnic minority villages.

At the same time, with the aim of supporting ethnic minority villages and hamlets to develop community tourism, Dak Lak province has developed and issued Resolution 08/2021/NQ-HDND dated August 13, 2021 on supporting the development of community tourism in ethnic minority villages and hamlets in Dak Lak province, period 2021 - 2025. The Resolution has created momentum for community tourism in Dak Lak to develop.

Up to now, Dak Lak has had the first recognized community tourism village, Ako Dhong Community Tourism Village. In 2023, the Provincial People's Committee has just agreed to support 2 more ethnic minority villages to develop community tourism, including Kuop village, Dray Sap commune, Krong Ana district and Tri village, Krong Na commune, Buon Don district.

Clear the flow

The Dak Lak Ethnic Culture Festival 2023, held in mid-November, left special impressions not only because of the attractive activities but also because of the convergence of generations of artisans. Many young people from the villages performed various types of folk culture fluently.

Performing with older artists in the Dak Lak Province Ethnic Culture Festival, the young Ede Bih gong team made locals and tourists admire. The young Ede Bih gong team in Buon Trap town, Krong Ana district is the youngest female gong team in Dak Lak province, with 20 members aged 7-13. The gong team won the B prize and the Youngest gong team prize at the 2nd Dak Lak Province Gong Culture Festival.

Identifying the role of artisans, Dak Lak province issued Resolution 06/2023/NQ-HDND dated June 14, 2023 on support for artisans in the province. The support aims to contribute to improving material and spiritual life, creating trust and motivation for artisans to unite, preserve and promote traditional cultural values of ethnic groups.

The passion and efforts of the young artisans show that the young generation in the villages is aware of the responsibility to promote the national cultural identity. Recently, the program of the Festival of young gong teams in Buon Ma Thuot City showed that the young generation is taking turns to hold and inherit the precious heritage of the nation. Among the 33 ethnic minority villages and hamlets in the city, there are 14 young gong teams with about 250 young artisans participating in the program.

Tay Nguyen folklore researcher Linh Nga Nie Kdam shared: That proves that gong life has returned to the living space of each community and ethnic group in villages and hamlets. Young gong teams not only inherit the precious heritage of their ancestors, but also promote cultural values as a strength for economic development. From there, there is more motivation to preserve and promote sustainable gong cultural values.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province Thai Hong Ha emphasized: Bringing the resolutions into life, the ultimate goal of the policies is only to support the foundation to encourage and create motivation, the most important thing is that the subject of culture truly feels its role and responsibility to preserve and promote the precious assets of their ancestors. Reality shows that Dak Lak province has promoted the role of the subject of ethnic minorities and the source of culture will flow forever in the lives of ethnic minorities.

There is a very special gong space in Ca Lui.
