In return, over the years, our farm has applied technical measures to 100 034 avocado trees for main and off-season harvests, so the estimated income per hectare in 2024 will reach about 350 - 400 million VND...”.

Specifically, the harvest of Dau Loan off-season 034 avocado will last for the first 2 months of 2024, with an average yield per hectare of 70 - 80 tons, about 30% compared to the main crop, but the selling price is 3 - 4 times higher than the main crop 034 avocado.

Not to mention that each off-season avocado tree has its main crop harvested from the beginning of May onwards, with an additional 50% yield compared to a one-season avocado tree.

Avocado brand 034 Dau Loan in Loc Thang town, Bao Lam district (Lam Dong province) applies technical measures to harvest 2 crops per year.

According to the Department of Agriculture of Bao Lam district, "Bao Lam is a suitable land for avocado trees to grow, especially the 034 avocado variety originating from Mr. Nguyen Van Dau's household, Group 2, Loc Thang town, recognized by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong as the first avocado tree in October 2010."

Thanks to the characteristics of avocado tree 034 for high productivity, quality and economic efficiency, farmers in Bao Lam district have intercropped it in industrial tree gardens as shade trees and created stable income on each unit of production land area.

Up to now, Bao Lam district has developed more than 2,370 hectares of 034 avocado, concentrated in the communes of Loc Nam, Loc Thanh, Loc An, Loc Duc, Loc Ngai, Loc Phu, Loc Tan, Tan Lac and Loc Thang town.

Combining experience with new techniques

The advantage of avocado area 034 in Bao Lam district is that it combines experience with new techniques according to food safety standards, is favored by consumers, and is harvested out of season compared to neighboring areas.

However, avocado 034 of Bao Lam district has a short shelf life and is difficult to transport, so it is not yet qualified for large-scale export.

During the time when supply cannot meet demand, some traders and farmers harvest unripe avocados that do not ensure quality, affecting the 034 avocado brand, a typical product of Bao Lam district.

Meanwhile, the connection between farmers and enterprises, cooperatives, primary processing and purchasing facilities is not really close, and cooperation is not mutually beneficial; the scale is still small; collective certification brands have not been built to control the quality of Bao Lam 034 avocado products.

To solve difficulties and problems in production, preliminary processing, processing, preservation, business, and sustainable development of avocado 034, Bao Lam district has identified key groups of solutions in the coming time.

At the same time, encourage businesses to invest in renovating equipment and technology systems, increasing the capacity of processing and preservation factories, diversifying products; applying HACCP and ISO quality management systems to increase the competitiveness of 034 avocado products, and increase added value in the domestic and export markets.
