(Dan Tri) - Opening its doors to visitors for the first time, the University of Natural Sciences building (formerly the University of General Sciences) impresses with its unique French architecture.
Located at 19 Le Thanh Tong (Hanoi), the University of Natural Sciences building, formerly known as the Indochina University, is one of the creative spaces and unique art installations at the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024. Designed by French architect Ernest Hébrad in 1926 and established in 1956, the building still retains its ancient look after nearly 100 years of construction. Within the framework of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, the University building is the venue for many activities, seminars, talks, and exhibitions. In particular, the interactive art exhibition complex Indochina Senses with 22 works, evokes visitors' old feelings about Indochina architecture and fine arts. Taking advantage of the opening time, many young people were present early to admire the architecture and experience interacting with the displayed works of art. On the left of the main hall, the painting was done by Victor Tardieu and his colleagues between 1921 and 1927, painted in the lecture hall of the Indochina University, now the Nguy Nhu Kon Tum Hall of the University of Natural Sciences. The painting covers an area of 77 square meters, recreating the social scene of Vietnam in the early 20th century with 200 characters appearing in the painting. Visitors to the areas from the 2nd floor and above will be lined up by volunteers. Due to the small space, each turn will only have 20 people to experience within 10 minutes.
The Museum of Biology stores and preserves hundreds of thousands of animal and plant specimens collected by Vietnam from the late 19th century to the present, including specimens from different geographical regions around the world donated by heads of state, scientists and foreign museums. Visiting the University for the first time, Phuong Nhai and Mai Anh (born in 2006, students of the Vietnam Women's Academy) expressed their excitement and surprise with the works imbued with culture and art. For Mai Anh, she was most impressed with the installation "Time Specimens", the specimens were realistically restored, rich and diverse in species. Entering the biological museum area helps young people gain a new perspective on the biological world.
After climbing a narrow wooden staircase, visitors will admire the typical beauty of Indochina architecture. Lighting technology enhances the classical beauty of the building. On the ceiling of the building is an image of two phoenixes, a symbol of authority in East Asian culture. "With neoclassical architecture, unique motifs combined with vivid lighting effects create an attractive performance that I cannot take my eyes off. Taking photos in this space is as beautiful as being in Europe," Phuong Nhai shared. Many of the building's patterns are in the Indochinese architectural style when combined with European architecture, built from materials and Vietnamese craftsmanship of that period. The ancient architectural lines on the attic floor make young people unable to take their eyes off. Having pursued a career in industrial fine arts, photographer Minh Anh (born in 1997) found new inspiration through admiring the works on display. The way the artworks are arranged in conjunction with the ancient lines in the building's architecture is what she liked most about this morning's visit. "To find more catalysts for creativity, I visited this over 100-year-old architectural work. Admiring the works here gives me many emotions and ideas for artistic creation," she shared. Anh Thu (1998, Hoan Kiem district) expressed her excitement: "Normally passing by this building, I was very impressed with the ancient French architecture. Today, stepping inside, the artworks were arranged very interestingly, blending with the architectural space, if there were no nameplates, I would not have discovered it." The Indochina Senses interactive art exhibition complex will take place from November 9 to 17 at the University of Science building. In addition to this building, the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 will also have exhibition spaces located at the Hanoi Children's Palace, the State Bank of Vietnam, the Bac Bo Palace, and the Opera House, promising to bring interesting experiences to visitors.
