TPO - After more than 5 years of construction with many design adjustments between the earthen dike and the concrete dike, the Au Co road section from Nghi Tam to Nhat Tan Bridge, over 5 km long, has just been completed. From 2 lanes, the road is now 6 lanes wide, convenient for traffic.
Faced with the small road surface, only 2 lanes, and frequent traffic jams, in 2018 the Hanoi People's Committee implemented the project of lowering the Au Co dike to widen the road. |
Up to now, after 5 years of construction, from 2 lanes, Au Co street, Nghi Tam - Nhat Tan section, has a width of 4 to 6 lanes, making traffic convenient and clear. |
In some sections, due to houses on both sides, the Au Co dike can only be widened to 2 lanes/direction, making traffic a bit difficult. |
Along with that, the dike surface was lowered to widen the roadway, rebuilt with a concrete retaining wall about 2 meters higher than the road surface in the direction of Nghi Tam - Nhat Tan. |
Although it is a concrete dike, the design still ensures flood protection of the Red River at alert level 3 (the highest level). In addition, on both sides of the retaining wall, there are still bridges and border gates for people living outside the dike to access Au Co street. |
In addition to the main road with 2 directions, each with 3 lanes, the project also builds parallel residential roads on both sides for people living on both sides of Nghi Tam - Au Co road to live and travel (red arrow). |
Along with that, the project also renovates and redesigns the infrastructure at intersections to ensure avoiding conflicts between traffic flows, causing traffic jams. |
Among these are major intersections such as: Au Co - Xuan Dieu, Au Co - Nghi Tam, Au Co - Yen Phu, Au Co - Lac Long Quan... In the photo: Instead of having to stop to wait for the traffic light, from now on, vehicles passing through Au Co - Nghi Tam intersection will continuously go through the roundabout. |
For over 5 years, due to the construction site, traffic on Au Co Street has only been one-way, causing constant congestion. However, since the end of September, the project has been completed and the Hanoi Department of Transport has had a plan to organize traffic for all vehicles to travel in both directions. |
