A meeting in the spirit of peace
The “Journey for Peace” program has connected 6 online points including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City with officers working at missions in Abyei, South Sudan, Central Africa and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York, USA. This is also an opportunity to do a good job of grasping the situation, encouraging ideology, taking care of policies, and family support for military and police forces performing UN peacekeeping missions at the missions, ensuring readiness to receive and complete all tasks assigned by the Party and State. At the program, delegates watched reports and shared directly from officers and soldiers who have worked and are working at UN peacekeeping missions to better understand their thoughts, aspirations, family circumstances; and preparations for the traditional New Year at the missions. The audience was moved when witnessing the "online" meeting of the family of Senior Lieutenant, professional soldier Bui Duc Vinh (Engineering Team No. 2) who is on duty in the Abyei area.

Attending the program with her two sons, Ms. Thieu Thi Kim Cuc (wife of Senior Lieutenant Vinh) said that this was the first time in 14 years of marriage that Vinh had been assigned to such a remote location. Although he was not at home this Tet, she said she would take care of the family for him and become a strong supporter so that he could work with peace of mind. From the Abyei bridgehead, Senior Lieutenant Bui Duc Vinh sent his thoughts to his wife and children: "Dad will do his job well and then return to his family." In particular, the guests, the Minister of Education of Abyei and the Principal of Abyei High School - which received a lot of help from the Vietnam Engineering Corps - expressed their emotion at being able to participate in the program to have the opportunity to express their feelings and gratitude to the soldiers who have provided practical and effective support to the students and schools here. The Minister of Education of Abyei hopes to continue receiving more support from the Vietnamese unit to bring a better life to the people. Since 2018, the first medical soldiers of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 1 set foot in the Bentiu area of South Sudan, which is now Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5. Up to now, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 of Vietnam has become a familiar address in the base of the UN peacekeeping force in the Bentiu area. In addition to providing health care, the hospital also organizes many meaningful events and activities to strengthen friendship with the UN peacekeeping forces of other countries.

Sharing at the program, Dr. Nguyen Ha Ngoc, Director of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5, said that this year, 100% of officers and soldiers celebrated Tet at the unit, so the hospital organized for members to have the warmest and most meaningful Spring holidays with full of apricot and peach blossoms, red parallel sentences and especially brought the flavor of Tet from home to South Sudan.
The “Journey for Peace” organized on the days before the traditional New Year has a special meaning for the UN peacekeeping force. The program aims to continue to promote the implementation of the Project on Propaganda for the Vietnam People's Army to participate in UN peacekeeping activities, affirming the great political significance of the Army deploying forces to participate in UN peacekeeping activities in the overall foreign policy and international integration on national defense of the Party and State. At the program, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, visited and encouraged Vietnamese officers and soldiers who are performing UN peacekeeping tasks at the missions. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that he was very moved and proud of the films, images and listening to the stories of the officers and soldiers of the blue berets of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam People's Public Security at the missions at this time before Tet. He shared: “I had the opportunity to work in Abyei, so I understand more clearly the hardships and difficulties that you comrades are going through. I am very happy to see that you, in Abyei as well as in all the stations of the peacekeeping force, are trying to overcome all difficulties to complete your tasks well in the field. I send my best wishes to the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers to welcome a Spring far from the Fatherland "but always close, warm and with the flavor of the homeland". The Deputy Minister of National Defense also advised the officers and soldiers to enjoy Tet but must complete their tasks well, especially ensuring the safety of members in the face of conflicts and instability still taking place in Africa, and at the same time hoping that the forces will continue to deploy many creative models to help the local people.
Talking with his teammates, Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, acknowledged the efforts of the entire force and believed that they would continue to promote the achieved results and continue to leave good impressions on international friends in participating in UN peacekeeping activities.
