Reporter (PV): On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Academy (May 20, 1963 / May 20, 2023), can you share some main features of the Academy?
Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thai Sinh: The Border Guard Academy (formerly the People's Armed Police Officer School) is a center for training, fostering cadres and scientific research, and is also a permanent unit of the Border Guard (BĐBP). During the resistance war against the US, to save the country and the border protection wars, hundreds of cadres, teachers, and thousands of students of the Academy directly participated in combat, eliminating evil, destroying plots, espionage, commando activities, border violations, and psychological warfare of the enemy. Many comrades made outstanding achievements, heroically sacrificed, and were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
The Academy has trained and fostered tens of thousands of officers for the Border Guard, Army, Police and military officers of countries in the region. The percentage of students graduating with good and excellent grades accounts for 82-84%. Currently, the Academy is training dozens of undergraduate, master's and doctoral students for the Border Guard, our Army, the Lao People's Army and the Royal Cambodian Army. Regarding scientific research, the Academy has researched nearly 2,000 topics, including 1 excellent state-level topic, 2 state-level branch topics, 7 ministerial-level topics, 92 industry-level topics...
With its outstanding achievements, HVBP was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, 7 Military Exploit Medals, 4 Feat of Arms Medals, Labor Medal, Fatherland Protection Medal and many other noble awards.
PV: In order for education and training work to meet the requirements of tasks in the new situation, what policies and solutions do the Party Committee and Board of Directors of the Academy have, comrade?
Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thai Sinh: Thoroughly grasping the resolutions and directives of superiors, especially Resolution No. 1657-NQ/QUTW dated December 20, 2022 of the Central Military Commission on innovation of education and training to meet the requirements of the task of building the Army in the new situation and Resolution 776 of the Border Guard Party Committee on innovation of education and training to meet the requirements of the task of building the Border Guard in the new situation, the Academy focuses on strongly and synchronously innovating the basic elements of education and training, such as: Standardizing the curriculum, teaching content, textbooks, documents and testing and assessment processes of education and training quality; ensuring the content and teaching methods are practical, modern, unified and interconnected between levels of education; We attach importance to training skills, professional qualities and equipping specialized professional knowledge with increasingly high requirements... We determine that education and training work must be close to the reality of the border, making students love the border, be good at their profession, and have the capacity to complete their tasks well.
PV: Could you please tell us what HVBP has done to train cadres close to the realities of the border?
Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thai Sinh: Implementing the direction of the Ministry of National Defense "The quality of training of the school is the combat readiness of the unit", the Academy has implemented many solutions, focusing on innovating teaching and learning methods in the direction of promoting creative thinking and self-study capacity of students, linking theory with practice, the school with the border and the unit, training theory with practice, focusing on improving practical skills for students close to the positions they will hold when graduating. The Academy closely cooperates with units and professional agencies of the Border Guard, updating the practical work and combat of the Border Guard on the border, sea and island routes into lectures; coordinating to organize scientific seminars on innovating the content and training methods of specialized professional subjects...
In particular, the Academy encourages students to go on field trips and internships, both learning through direct implementation of tasks and understanding the practical work, combat, and life of the Border Guard and the conditions and lives of people in border, sea, and island areas, thereby determining their responsibilities and determination, and not being surprised when graduating. Not only going on field trips and internships according to the training program, the Academy also sends cadres, lecturers, and students to reinforce units to carry out urgent and necessary tasks, such as during the peak period of the country's prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, thousands of lecturers and students of the Border Guard Academy were reinforced for units performing tasks on key border lines. In addition, the Academy applies digital transformation so that students can see many visual images, enhance documents, models, and training grounds to ensure teaching and learning is close to practical tasks...
Reporter: The working conditions of the Border Guard at the border, sea and islands are very difficult, arduous, even dangerous, and far from family... How does the Academy make students love the border and feel secure in studying and working?
Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thai Sinh: This is an issue that the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Border Guard Academy are very concerned about. In order for students to become border guards after graduation, return to their units with a spirit and enthusiasm to contribute, have a deep love for the border, sea, and islands, and successfully complete their assigned tasks, the Academy focuses on doing a good job of political, ideological, and traditional education; regularly organizing seminars, forums, and specialized information on the border, especially implementing the model "Border in the heart of the Academy". Images and stories about the border have educated and fostered the love for the border, the qualities and mettle of students; through the examples of officers and soldiers who have devoted their whole lives to the border, overcoming hardships to grow up, in which many comrades who studied and worked at the Academy have developed into generals and senior officials... creating in students confidence, enthusiasm, and determination to strive.
PV: Thank you very much, comrade!
