On August 5, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) said that authorities are still closely monitoring the rabies outbreak in three communes: Minh Phu, Hien Ninh and Thanh Xuan of Soc Son district.
Currently, the health authorities have recorded 10 people exposed to rabies after being bitten by 3 rabid dogs. These cases have been treated for their wounds, and have been advised to receive rabies vaccination and anti-rabies serum according to regulations.
Previously, on the morning of July 25, a rabid dog of unknown origin, a domestic dog weighing about 15kg, appeared in Lam Truong village, Minh Phu commune, bit and came into contact with 13 dogs and cats of 4 households and bit 1 person. From about 11-12 o'clock on the same day, this dog moved to Viet Phu Thanh Chuong tourist area (Ninh Mon village, Hien Ninh commune) and bit 2 people, including 1 visitor and 1 security guard. Staff at Viet Phu Thanh Chuong beat the dog to death and reported to the veterinary staff of Hien Ninh commune. The veterinary staff of Hien Ninh commune sent samples to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis Center for testing and the results were positive for rabies virus.
In response to the above incident, the local authorities have requested Viet Phu Thanh Chuong to stop tourism activities for 21 days and fully implement epidemic prevention and control solutions according to the instructions of veterinary staff and the direction of the local authorities.
According to the representative of Hanoi CDC, the rabies epidemic situation in animals is complicated. Since the beginning of the year, Hanoi has recorded 6 rabies outbreaks in dogs, all in Soc Son district. Meanwhile, rabies is very dangerous, if bitten by a rabid dog and not vaccinated, when the disease develops, almost 100% of patients die.
