The 66th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship is scheduled to be held in Quang Tri in 2025.

This morning, January 17, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam chaired a working session with the Tien Phong newspaper delegation on coordinating the organization of the Tien Phong newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day April 30 (1975 - 2025).

The Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship is the oldest running tournament in Vietnamese sports . In 2024, the tournament marks its 65th anniversary.

Over the past 64 years of being organized, the tournament has discovered and trained hundreds of athletes at the master and level 1 levels, contributing to the glory of Vietnamese sports in international marathon competitions and being the core of the Vietnamese Athletics Team participating in long-distance and medium-distance running in competitions at the SEA Games, Asian Games and continental and world athletics competitions.

This is a tournament within the official competition system of the Vietnam Athletics Federation; gathering top professional athletes to compete for national medals of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.

The 66th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship is scheduled to be held in Quang Tri in 2025.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper Vu Tien said that each year the tournament is held in a different province or city. In 2024, the tournament will take place in Phu Yen on March 31. In 2025, the Organizing Committee hopes to coordinate with Quang Tri province to organize the tournament on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30 (1975 - 2025).

This will be a major event, contributing significantly to promoting socio-economic development, tourism development; promoting the image of Quang Tri land and people, scenic spots, historical relics, culinary specialties; promoting the development of Quang Tri sports movement; attracting domestic and international tourists to Quang Tri.

The tournament is expected to take place in March 2025, gathering a large number of athletes from the national athletics team and excellent athletes from localities, especially more than 6,000 amateur athletes; competing in distances of 5 km, 10 km, 21.1 km and 42.2 km.

Tien Phong Newspaper proposed that the Provincial People's Committee agree on the principle of organizing the tournament and direct relevant departments, branches and localities to actively coordinate and support in developing a plan to successfully organize the tournament.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam highly appreciated the idea and thanked Tien Phong Newspaper for trusting and choosing Quang Tri to host the Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship. This is an important event in a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30.

The Provincial People's Committee agreed with Tien Phong newspaper to host the tournament. The newspaper's leaders were requested to send an official document to the Provincial People's Committee regarding the coordination in organizing the tournament; at the same time, continue to discuss, coordinate implementation, and agree on the specific assignment of responsibilities between Tien Phong newspaper and the Provincial People's Committee. Regarding the tournament's time, competition route, ensuring accommodation for athletes; ensuring traffic safety, security, order, health care... there will be appropriate and effective calculations in the coming time.

The Provincial People's Committee committed to coordinate and create the best conditions for the tournament to take place successfully; at the same time, it directed departments, branches and localities to strengthen coordination and support. In particular, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism was assigned to be the focal point to closely coordinate with Tien Phong newspaper to carry out related tasks to ensure the tournament takes place in an exciting, attractive and impressive manner.
