Solutions to increase consumption and diversify consumption channels of OCOP products

This morning, December 5, in Hanoi, the Domestic Market Department and the Industry and Trade Magazine - Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly organized the Conference "Connecting consumption of OCOP products". At the Conference, delegates and experts discussed policy solutions, support for connecting consumption, and trade promotion for OCOP products.

Conference "Connecting consumption of products of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program"

The "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) program was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 490/QD-TTg dated May 7, 2018 with 3 goals: Developing forms of production and business organization; Shifting economic structure, improving income and living standards for people and Industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas. After more than 5 years of implementation, up to now, 63/63 provinces and cities nationwide have evaluated and classified OCOP products. There have been 10,322 OCOP products with 3 stars or more, of which 67.3% are 3-star products, 31.2% are 4-star products, 0.8% are potential 5-star products and 42 are 5-star products. Besides, there are 5,361 OCOP entities, of which 38.1% are cooperatives, 24.2% are enterprises, 34.9% are production establishments/business households, and the rest are cooperative groups.

There have been 10,322 OCOP products achieving 3 stars or more after 5 years of implementing the program.

Localities have exploited their potential and strengths to develop OCOP products, typically: the Red River Delta accounts for 31.36% of the total OCOP products in the country; the Northern mountainous region accounts for 19.8% and the Mekong River Delta accounts for 18.4%.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said: Implementing Decision 490/QD-TTg dated May 7, 2018 of the Prime Minister approving the One Commune One Product Program for the period 2018-2020, Decision No. 919/QD-TTg dated August 1, 2022 of the Prime Minister approving the One Commune One Product Program for the period 2021-2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has implemented many activities and achieved many specific results. In particular, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has built a database of OCOP products and a system of OCOP product introduction and sales points nationwide through the OCOP Program section on the website http://sanphamvungmien.vn; Promote communication, propaganda, promotion activities, image building, and branding for OCOP products and OCOP product introduction and sales points. Along with that, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has developed criteria for OCOP product introduction and sales points as a basis for localities to build OCOP product introduction and sales points. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has provided funding and directly guided and supported 25 localities (21 localities in the period of 2019-2020 and 04 localities in 2023) to build OCOP product introduction and sales points in the area. Some localities, using their own funding, have implemented the construction of OCOP product introduction points according to the criteria of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and with a unified point of sale identification set. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also implemented a series of market connection activities, organized conferences and seminars to promote the connection of supply and demand, consumption of OCOP products, typical rural and agricultural industrial products, key products of localities, and regional specialties. According to the assessment at the Conference, the "One Commune One Product" Program has created a strong start-up movement, contributing to the transformation of production towards increasing the scale of commodity production associated with the chain linkage of localities; contributing to the formation of many production areas. The list of products is increasingly diverse, rich, of good quality and traceable origin. Many products have beautiful, sophisticated and unique designs, promoting the advantages of local resources and traditional culture with the application of science and technology, are increasingly trusted and appreciated by many customers for their quality, gradually affirming their value and reputation in the market, growing in revenue and selling price even in difficult times due to the pandemic; Contribute to improving income and quality of life for people in urban, rural, remote areas and ethnic minorities. With the connection of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, typical rural industrial products, products that are typical, special, potential, and advantages of localities and regions have been connected to the system of OCOP product introduction and sales points nationwide, and have been included in all major distribution systems nationwide such as Go!, MM Mega Market, Saigon Co.op , Winmart, Winmart+... In the past time, large distribution corporations such as Central Retail, AEON, Saigon Co.op have also coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, accompanying localities to organize events to connect, promote, and consume OCOP products at supermarket systems such as: OCOP Week at Big C, OCOP Product Connection Fair at AEON General Store and Supermarket System, OCOP Agricultural Product Promotion Week at Saigon Co.op System... In addition, many localities have been promoting the consumption of goods and products through cultural and tourism activities. Thanks to the combination with tourism, localities have promoted production and purchasing activities, forming a supply chain, consuming modern and sustainable products. Thereby, contributing to promoting localities to actively participate in producing strong products as well as developing the economy.

Delegates and experts discussed policy solutions, support for connecting consumption and promoting trade for OCOP products.

Within the framework of the Program, the Conference focused on discussing Solutions to increase consumption and diversify consumption channels of OCOP products, with speakers representing state management agencies, distribution enterprises; and representatives of e-commerce sales channels of OCOP products.

Many agreements to support connection for OCOP product consumption were signed at the conference.

At the conference, an agreement to support connection of production and consumption of OCOP products was signed between the units.
