Gold trading is bustling near the God of Wealth Day (January 10 of the Lunar calendar) |
The gold market is not only heating up with world prices but also trading is bustling due to the approaching God of Wealth Day. According to records, in recent days, gold shops have been crowded, in many places buyers have to queue up for hours to be able to trade. Most people buy small amounts of gold, 1-2, just for luck.
Meanwhile, many people saw the high price of gold and sold it to make a profit. According to records, many people sold quite large amounts of gold, up to many taels of gold, causing at times the store did not have enough cash to pay customers and had to write a note to pay later.
Mr. Pham Van Ben brought 50 taels of gold to sell, sharing that this was the amount of gold he and his wife had saved since their wedding, in which, the lowest price of gold he bought was 5.5 million VND/tael and the highest was 8.2 million VND/tael.
“My wife and I discussed and decided to sell gold to save money to buy a piece of land or a house. In my opinion, even if the world gold price increases, the profit over the past few years is enough for us to close the deal at this time and switch to another channel,” said Mr. Ben.
At some gold shops, due to the long wait, some customers decided to buy and sell directly between the buyer and seller. Ms. Dao Thi Binh said that she only wanted to buy 2 taels of gold, while she had to wait in line for more than 30 minutes and there was still a long line ahead. Therefore, when she saw someone bringing gold to sell, she checked and saw that the gold was still intact, so she decided to buy it right away.
“I buy directly from the seller, take the listed price of the store and split the difference between buying and selling, each party pays half. That way the buyer also benefits because he buys at a cheaper price than the listed selling price, and the seller sells at a higher price than the store's buying price,” Ms. Binh shared.
The domestic gold market is forecast to continue to heat up, especially today and tomorrow due to rising world prices and high buying and selling demand.
Globally, gold prices continue to break old records and are trading around $2,869 per ounce. Safe-haven demand continues to push the yellow metal into uncharted territory. Traders and investors remain nervous amid unpredictable policy actions and the potential for trade disruptions by US President Trump.
China-US trade tensions are escalating as both countries this week raised tariffs and took other business steps against each other.
