Gold shops quoted the buying price of gold bars at around 84.6 million VND/tael and the selling price at up to 85.4 million VND/tael, about 1 million VND/tael higher than the company price.
Major gold companies such as SJC, PNJ, DOJI temporarily stopped listing prices on New Year's Day.
Not only SJC gold bars, the price of 99.99 gold rings and jewelry gold also increased on the first day of 2025 and there was a difference between businesses. Specifically, Mi Hong gold shops listed the price of plain gold rings at 83.6 million VND/tael for buying and 84.3 million VND/tael for selling.

According to our records, although the free gold market is not bustling, customers in need can still buy from familiar gold shops. Mr. Nguyen Nam (living in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that he just received about ten taels of gold that his relatives in Long An bought from a gold shop in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
“The gold shop owner contacted me by phone, then arranged to meet at a coffee shop and deliver the gold, while my relatives had already transferred the money. But it had to be an acquaintance, as many gold shops do not dare to transact SJC gold bars with strangers,” said Mr. Nam.
In the international market, the price of gold ended the last day of 2024 at 2,625 USD/ounce, up more than 20 USD/ounce compared to the previous session. According to analysts, gold prices often increase positively in January every year when demand for physical gold increases during the Lunar New Year in markets such as China, India, etc.
Forecasting the upcoming gold price, gold expert Tran Duy Phuong said that gold prices will increase in the first half of 2025 but not as dramatically as in 2024.
Specifically, the price of gold next year could increase to a maximum of about 2,850 - 2,900 USD/ounce, making it very difficult to reach the threshold of 3,000 USD/ounce.
In the second half of the year, if the price of gold reverses downward, it will be very difficult for it to fall below $2,500/ounce because the new price level of the precious metal has formed over the past year.
Regarding domestic gold prices, according to Mr. Tran Duy Phuong, fluctuations in world gold prices will immediately affect domestic gold prices, but the adjustment rhythm of domestic gold prices is forecasted to be slower, with a certain delay.
