Growing medicinal plants, Hai Duong farmers earn millions each year
Evaluated as suitable for the land in Tan Quang commune (Ninh Giang, Hai Duong), the medicinal plant moneywort is grown by local people, expanding the area and bringing in significant income.
Farmers in Doan Xa village, Tan Quang commune have been growing the medicinal plant moneywort for 2 years now. Last year they experimented with growing this plant and found it easy to grow and highly profitable, so this year they expanded the area to 1 hectare. Moneywort is planted in January or February and will be harvested in June. The harvest period lasts until October with 3 harvests, each about 2 months apart. Harvesting moneywort is also simple, just cut it, bring it home, process it, dry it, package it and sell it to a purchasing unit.
They harvest three times a year, the first crop yields about 80 kg/sao, the second crop yields 1-1.2 quintals/sao and the third crop yields 1.3-1.4 quintals/sao. After deducting expenses, they can make a profit of about 10 million VND/sao/year.
Chili prices hit record high
Compared to more than 3 weeks ago, the price of chili peppers and chili peppers in many localities in the Mekong Delta continues to increase by 5,000-12,000 VND/kg and is at a record high since the beginning of 2024.
Currently, the price of grade 1 yellow chili pepper is 55,000-60,000 VND/kg, grade 2 is 45,000-50,000 VND/kg. Grade 1 chili pepper is 37,000-40,000 VND/kg, grade 2 is 30,000-33,000 VND/kg.
This price is more than double the price at the beginning of the year. The increase in chili prices is due to the strong demand for chili for domestic consumption and export, while the supply of chili is decreasing because farmers reduce the planting area.
Currently, the productivity and yield of many chili gardens have also decreased due to the impact of pests and adverse weather conditions, with erratic rain and sunshine.

Record low price of avocado 034, farmers are unhappy |
Farmers in Loc Ngai commune, Bao Lam district) said: Since 2018, when the income from avocado trees was high compared to other crops, the family invested in planting 1 hectare according to VietGAP standards. After a few crops with stable income, in the past 2 years, the price of avocado has dropped to a record low, currently only 2,000-5,000 VND/kg, not enough to cover the cost of care.
In Loc Ngai commune, there are more than 300 hectares of avocado trees (mainly intercropped). Due to low selling prices and difficult output, many gardeners do not harvest, leaving the ripe fruit to fall to the ground as fertilizer for crops.
This year's avocado output in the area is very high, about 500 tons, but the current purchase price from traders is only 2,500-3,000 VND/kg, so people are not interested in harvesting or taking care of the trees.
Similarly, because the price of avocados is too low to cover the cost of planting, many gardeners have cut them down to make room for other types of trees. Ms. Vu Thi Trang (Loc Chau commune, Bao Loc city) said: A few years ago, the peak price of avocados was over 100,000 VND/kg, but at the beginning of last year's avocado season, it was 25,000-30,000 VND/kg, and by the peak harvest, it had dropped to only 5,000-10,000 VND/kg. Realizing the low price, we decided to cut down all of the more than 100 avocado trees planted in the garden, focusing on taking care of the coffee trees in the garden.

Lotus mirror price increased slightly by 5,000 VND/kg |
The price has increased because many small traders and businesses have increased their purchases of lotus seeds to process products for domestic consumption and export, especially dried lotus seeds and lotus seed milk. Currently, the supply of lotus seeds in many localities has also decreased due to the end of the harvest season, as well as because people have reduced their planting areas this year.
According to many lotus farmers, from the beginning of 2024 until now, lotus mirrors generally have quite good selling prices, from 20,000-45,000 VND/kg, depending on the time.
