Ministry of Industry and Trade implements many solutions to promote agricultural product consumption
Vietnam possesses many advantages in agricultural development and agricultural products have become one of the important commodities, contributing to domestic trade as well as import and export. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, agricultural products are identified as both an important source of food and foodstuff in the country and the livelihood of the people, and a strategic commodity in the structure of export goods, contributing to improving the trade balance and promoting economic development.
According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 9 months of 2024, the total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products reached 46.28 billion USD, an increase of 21%; the whole year of 2024 could reach 50 - 54 billion USD.

Dr. Le Quoc Phuong - Former Deputy Director of the Center for Industry and Trade Information - Ministry of Industry and Trade said that agricultural products play a particularly important role in the economy because they are closely linked to the lives of farmers - who are of great interest. Positive agricultural exports help improve people's lives, raise living standards, and effectively implement strategies for agricultural, farmer, and rural development.
At the same time, agricultural products are also a major commodity in traditional markets and domestic supermarkets. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, currently, the proportion of Vietnamese agricultural products accounts for 70-85% in traditional distribution channels and modern supermarkets.
To achieve this result, trade promotion activities for agricultural products have been carried out strongly and more systematically. Every year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade allocates appropriate funds for trade promotion of agricultural products through organizing trade promotion conferences with Vietnamese Trade Offices abroad with the content of promoting the export of seasonal agricultural products. The conferences are held in many localities that are large agricultural areas such as Hai Duong, Bac Giang... to help open up outlets for many types of strong agricultural products.
In the domestic market, localities, associations, and industries also regularly organize events to connect agricultural supply and demand in supermarkets, modern distribution channels, traditional markets, etc. Thanks to that, Vietnamese agricultural products have been present in many distribution channels, meeting the needs of the majority of consumers. In parallel, agricultural export promotion has developed from promotion on traditional distribution channels to promotion on digital platforms.
Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Department of Trade Promotion - Ministry of Industry and Trade informed that implementing product consumption activities on digital platforms, especially for seasonal agricultural products, has always been an activity of interest to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Currently, the program has entered the optimization and expansion phase, focusing on improving business skills on digital platforms, developing brands, and building capacity for businesses in 6 key economic regions.
Under the direction of Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, with the participation of ministries, associations, and enterprises, in recent times, the Trade Promotion Agency has implemented trade promotion programs in the provinces of Lao Cai, Hanoi, Dak Lak, Ha Giang, Bac Giang... and initiated many livestream sessions of Proud of Vietnamese Goods on the Tik tok platform to promote regional specialty products and achieved certain results.
“According to statistics, the sales sessions achieved revenue of over 2 billion VND, with over 8,000 orders sold, reaching over 50 million views and interactions, receiving the attention of a large number of customers,” said Mr. Vu Ba Phu.
More and more agricultural products such as rice, coffee, vegetables, fruits, etc. bearing Vietnamese brands or products produced by domestic enterprises are present in supermarket chains, retail systems, international supply and distribution systems in major markets around the world. Product quality, competitive prices, improved production processes, product diversity and efforts to comply with requirements and regulations on product safety standards are important factors that help Vietnamese agricultural products conquer and gain the trust of consumers in many demanding markets such as Europe, America, Japan and many other countries, making Vietnam an important link in the global agricultural supply and value chain.
On the part of business associations, in recent times, associations and businesses have been making efforts to effectively exploit trade promotion activities to increase the export output of this item to key markets. At the same time, they have expanded to the domestic market to increase market share and enhance the image of Vietnamese agricultural products in the domestic market.
Increase the effectiveness of trade promotion
The effectiveness of trade promotion is clear, but currently, the competitiveness of agricultural products in the world and domestic markets is increasingly high. Therefore, in the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade determines to continue supporting enterprises to promote trade promotion activities, build brands to develop agricultural product markets to increase market share in both domestic and foreign markets. In addition, coordinate with ministries, branches, localities and industry associations to support enterprises to exploit the preferential mechanisms of the FTAs that our country has signed, especially to make the most of the tariff quotas for Vietnam.
Mr. Vu Ba Phu said that in the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in negotiation activities, focusing on coordinating negotiations on market opening, animal and plant quarantine, and other related technical requirements to facilitate the export of more agricultural products to the world market.
On the side of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien - Director of the Center for Agricultural Trade Promotion said that in order to diversify trade promotion forms, open new markets, increase opportunities to reach customers and bring outstanding economic efficiency to localities, the highlight at the Market is the livestream activity selling agricultural products and OCOP products on the TikTok platform and social networking platforms.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien emphasized that the organization of fairs and markets aims to support localities, enterprises, cooperatives, and agricultural production establishments to develop their business, expand their markets, and focus more on the domestic market with the motto "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" and "Vietnamese goods conquer Vietnamese consumers"; Propaganda, brand promotion, honoring clean and safe agricultural, forestry and fishery products; Creating a bridge between cooperatives, enterprises and consumers, between production and consumption.
