Pig price today 11/9

*Pig price in the North:

The price of live pigs in the North continued to move sideways this morning. Currently, traders in this area are purchasing at around 62,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, the lowest price in the region was 62,000 VND/kg recorded in the two provinces of Ninh Binh and Lao Cai. The remaining localities traded from 63,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.

*Pig price in the Central Highlands region

The live hog market in the Central Highlands region increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg in the provinces of Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh and Lam Dong. Thus, there is no locality nationwide with transactions below 60,000 VND/kg.

Currently, this area is trading at a difference of 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg. Of which, the level of 63,000 VND/kg appears in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

*Pig price in the Southern region

The Southern region increased by 2,000 VND/kg in An Giang and 1,000 VND/kg in Can Tho, both reaching 63,000 VND/kg. This is also the highest level in the region.

With the same price increase, live pigs in Binh Phuoc were sold at 61,000 VND/kg this morning. The remaining provinces and cities in the region had a difference in buying and selling between 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

* Vietnam's pork output in the overall picture of world pork in 2025?

According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Vietnam's pork output is expected to increase by 3% to 3.8 million tons thanks to the expansion of the pig herd as the ability to control African swine fever (ASF) improves.

U.S. pork production is expected to increase 2% in 2025 to 12.9 million tons, driven by increases in the number of pigs slaughtered and the number of piglets per litter. In addition, improved industry profitability in 2024 and lower feed costs are expected to continue to support increased hog weights. U.S. pork exports are expected to increase 3.4% in 2025 to 3.4 million tons, driven by ample domestic supplies and strong export price competitiveness.

Pork production in Brazil is estimated to increase by 1.2% to 4.6 million tonnes, thanks to strong export demand and lower input costs.

For the EU and China, USDA forecasts a decline in pork production. Specifically, EU pork production is expected to decline by 1.6% in 2025, to 20.9 million tons due to lower pork prices.

Although China’s pork industry profitability improved in 2024, China’s pork production is expected to decline by 2.2% in 2025 to 55.5 million tonnes. The decline in the number of sows in 2024 will reduce the number of pigs slaughtered in 2025. In addition, pork demand in China is forecast to remain weak, due to economic uncertainty and a growing shift to poultry meat.

As expected production declines in China and the EU outweigh growth in the US, Vietnam and Brazil, world pork production in 2025 is expected to decline by 0.8% to 115.1 million tonnes.
