Pig price today 12/28
* The live pig market in the North reversed and decreased in price in some localities.
Specifically, after a reduction of VND1,000/kg, localities including Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi and Tuyen Quang all purchased live pigs at VND51,000/kg - the highest in the region.
50,000 VND/kg is the transaction price recorded in Lao Cai, Nam Dinh and Ha Nam, down 1,000 VND/kg.
The remaining provinces and cities have stable pork prices this morning.
Today's live pig price in the North is around 50,000 - 51,000 VND/kg.
* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions increased by the highest 2,000 VND/kg.
In particular, Quang Nam, Dak Lak and Binh Thuan provinces all traded at 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg (depending on the region), a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg.
Live pigs in Binh Dinh are traded at 50,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg.
Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.
* In the southern region, pig prices are quiet.
In detail, 49,000 VND/kg is the lowest transaction price in the region, recorded in Binh Phuoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and Tra Vinh.
The remaining localities purchase at prices ranging from 49,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.
The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 49,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.
* According to a livestock expert from CP Company, this year's pig farming is even more difficult than the 2017 surplus crisis. At that time, despite calls for "pig rescue", purchasing power was good and livestock farming was not affected by disease. But now, the cost of raising pigs has increased sharply due to the cost of breeding, feed and especially the risk of disease.
In addition, although the price of live pigs in Vietnam is below the cost price, compared to neighboring countries such as Laos, Cambodia, and China, it is still higher, so there is no opportunity to export and we have to face smuggled pigs. In particular, the source of goods from Cambodia, the current price of live pigs is only 36,000 VND/kg, so traders find ways to smuggle them.
Mr. Nguyen Tri Cong, Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association, commented: "Although the price of live pigs has increased, with the price of 50,000 - 52,000 VND/kg, only a few businesses break even, the majority are still losing money. Throughout the past year, livestock farms have had to endure and hope to survive when prices increase in the future."
